can it be done??? does calories always = energy??? i have a typical tb who, at the mo is doing more work and could reallly do with a bit more condition, he is fed at the moment equilibrium med energy and speedibeet, i was thinking of changing it to allen and page calm and condition with a chaff?? what would your thoughts be????

Yes, It's a diet feed balancer. I fed it predominatly for hoof benefits and it was great - but he looked great on it too. I fed it with mix, beet adn alfa a.

ahh sounds interesting, now im more confused,,, feed is such a minefield!!!! i really want to give him something for condition, and as hes only young and going really well, i dont want to blow his brains<<<< does that make any sense??

When I've used them before I have always phoned the merchants of the names I tended to use to see what they would say first and then take it from there.

As I said, I liked the Blue Chip Lami Lite - downside was price. I have just posted about Naf pink powder as I was recommended it for my new horse but don't know the product at all. Why don't u get a couple of possibilities then post on here for a general opinion?

Yes it can be done by selecting high fibre and high oil feeds that are low in starch. Starch is what normally causes fizz, because it releases energy more rapidly following digestion. Energy from fibre and oil is released slowly, so less likely to cause fizz.
Topspec cool condition cubes for example are about 6% starch, so very low but still offering 12.5 mj/kg DE. Calm and condition is 19% starch, so much higher, with the same DE. So topspec cubes would be better if you have a fizzy horse.

Oil offers approx 2.5 x more energy per kg than cereals, so it is vey energy dense. This means you can get more calories per kg and it is safer than cereals. You could therefore add a high oil feed to your current diet, alfa a oil for example or coolstance copra meal or saracen equijewel.

My saddler swears by Outshine to keep condition on her youngster without the fizz. I can definitely say it puts condition on as it worked quickly (with alfa a oil) on my pony when he lost weight last autumn but he is generally laid back and food doesn't seem to affect his temperament.

You could keep the diet he has now and 'top up' with Outshine?

thanks Tt but ive fed alfa oil before and made my horse really buzzy, ive also fed the cool conditioning cube and they made an unfizzy horse v fizzy!!!

thats interesting and i like the sound of it!! Have you actually used it yourself, how long does a tub last???

Please do switch! I cannot rate that A+P C/C and chaff combo highly enough- my siggie *should* be pics of my 4yr old warmblood x in a progress line from August 08 to February 09. I really think the images speak for themselves!

Yes i have used it, on 2 different horses!! It is fab stuff and you can really see results, that little tub lasted about 10 days on a not v high dosage, and i saw results in that time, i have now been able to keep the weight on her, so taken her off it, but we know it works if she drops again.
They do a much bigger tub but we just bought little tub to see results and did.
The only problem was feeding it in the morning, the smell nearly makes me gag, but she didnt seem to mind and she is a vv fussy eater, no oil or outshine would go down her!!!

None at all (but then he is a warmblood!) and he hasn't been in any work either- I thought he was too weak so that starts shortly! I'm just massively impressed by how much top cover he has put on (sorry if it seems I'm blowing my own trumpet!in my defence it genuinely has only been A+P, Alfa A, and ad lib hay and grass so I haven't got anything to be bigheaded about

thanx for that ive actually looked it up and i cant find whats actually in it??? do you know what its made up of?

"A unique pellet formulated from skimmed milk to provide high quality, body-building protein, coupled with additional vitamins, minerals and trace elements. * Keeps condition on box resting animals when muscle tone can be lost through long periods of enforced inactivity. * Excellent feed for orphaned foals, which can be weaned off the bottle early if introduced to SPILLERS Equivite Body Builder as a milk replacer"

I think it is literally vvv condensed milk, with added vitamins, i have a tub on yad i can look at if you want!!

sounds great, and different, he really is quite lean at the moment and could do with a really intensive product asap,, i wouldnt be able to keep him on it all the time at those prices, and am i still going to have the problem of what feed to put him on, as the feed he is on atm is not doing it for him!!

tbh i think like calmers what works for one horse won't work for another!! although feeds harder as you need to give them enough time to work!!

I too have had a fizzy horse go totally OTT when the only change I made was using the TS Cool cubes. One thing that doesn't affect her is D and H Build Up, nuts not mix thoughas they are lower starch, and the well regarded Pink Powder.

I really rate Outshine too - I feed this with speedibeet and a balancer and happy hoof to my TBx - desperately needed weight on him but not the fizziness. Tried most of the conditioning feeds but had to feed huge amounts as big cost and they didnt really do anything other than make him spooky. Outshine is expensive but a little goes a long way.....

My boy is on TopSpec Senior (old boy), their CoolCondition Cubes and unmolassed sugarbeet. He looks fab and shiny! (cant have alfalfa it sends him bonkers)

the starch levels, i prob would'nt use the outshine now, as we have the grass coming up, i would maybe go for a low starch mix, and a bag or two of alfa oil chaff...

Its not what i want, i want to see amounts and measures!!! A few i looked at and couldnt find the info on the amounts ect, was topspec ,outshine and blue chip!
