Murphy has been lacking in energy recently, and I realised that he has dropped weight and is now at his slimmest ever, so I think he's just not been getting enough food to give him enough bounce!

I've upped his food, but just wondering if there's anything else I can give him - any supplements or particular feed that would help?

He is living out 24/7 on restricted grazing, and currently getting:

half scoop unmolassed chaff
3rd of a scoop of molassed chaff (this does really help!!)
handful of leisure mix
vits and mins
garlic

oats have been suggested before but I have to admit I know nothing about feeding them...how much to give, what's the best form to feed them in, do they need any preparation/soaking etc??

Has anyone tried any supplements for increasing energy? He needs a bit more 'sparkle'.

Hi Bex :) Have you tried him on a higher energy mix? If you start feeding straights you need to be looking at balancing them which then makes things more complicated. Maybe something like pasture mix which is a bit higher energy than leisure mix?

I have to admit that I would leave out the molassed chaff, only because the sugar makes my mare loopy, and it is only a short acting energy hit anyway - if you ate a choc bar you would feel high then a dip. For energy I would add kwikibeet and/or microionized linseed for the oil. Not sure what supplements would do it, unless his lack of sparkle would be down to a deficiency, think you generally need to go for more energy/calories and pic sources that would be reasnobly long acting. Fibre and fat are good for this. Must admit haven't tried oats so afraid I can't help with that.

Helloooo! he was on competition cubes but they didn't seem to make much difference....do you think it would be worth trying mix instead?

I think he needs Red Bull!!!

In terms of supplements, there's Equine America's Propell Plus (turned my mare into a complete loon but I know others have had success on it) and NAF EnerG.
Search them on here, there have been good reports of both...

What workload does he have?

There are also a few higher energy feeds you could try:
D&H Staypower
A&P Power and PErformance
Spillers Slow or Quick Release Energy Cubes or Mix
Winergy Medium Energy Mix (my mares temperament was lovely on this but it is expensive to feed at recommended levels)
