14.2hh 6 year old cob x mare.
On 20 x metformin tablets daily for ems.
Lives out 24/7, wears a muzzle as necessary (it came off about 2 weeks ago!) gets hay as and when needed.
Currently fed handful hi-fi molasses free, salt and 1/4 portion of top spec lite balancer. Have upped balancer to 3/4 rda but she's no different after 2 weeks (not sure if it needs longer to take effect?) she only gets the balancer as she won't eat the tablets just in chaff but seems to love the balancer.
In work 4x per week at the moment, 2x hour hacks, 1 x 20-30min hack, 1 x schooling/pole-work/jumping session- our hacking is very hilly too.
I am working on building her fitness up but she feels very 'flat'. She is responsive and naturally forwards going (not a ploddy cob at all) but seems to be struggling a bit at the moment.
Her weight is just about spot on and she balloons really easily so I can't risk anything that will put weight on.
Vet suggested veg oil which I tried previously but noticed no difference on. Did buy a small bottle of linseed oil after reading this article but am a bit worried about weight gain: http://davidmarlin.co.uk/portfolio/how-and-why-to-feed-oil-to-horses
Nearly at the end of chaff and balancer so can do a total diet change if needed but wondered if the brains of HHO can suggest to feed a fatty who needs a bit of an energy boost.
