Any sugestions. 15.3, 16YO ISH mare currently fed 1/2 Spillers Instant Energy, 1/2 scoop Alfa and sugar beet. Ridden 6 days a week, mixture of schooling, jumping, hacking and competing. Usually for an hour at the weekends sometimes 2 hours.

She's sooo laid back at the mo it's untrue. Back was sore, but that's all fine now. I am considering getting the vet to take bloods. But just wondered if you had any suggestions.

Oh and she seemed to put weight on all to easy when she had 2 weeks of easy work due to her back.

Have you tried rolled oats? I put my pure bred Arab on them for the same reason, she was getting tired from the lack of grass. She now got more rev under the throttle but she's not hot headed on them at all.

Pretty cheap too!

Have the same problem with my ISH - although he is a demon out hunting all the rest of the time he is very laid back, verging on lazy.
Have found red cell supplement helps and have just changed his feed to include oats so will see if that makes a difference too.
Good luck!

TIGER OATS !!!my horse wont move without them and they dont put on weight as much i found like the rolled oats do .my sec D had the energy without the ticking time bomb effect.

Oats (although these didnt work for rock) also readigrass (rock never lacks energy on this!) and maybe oil in her feed but this might make her put on weight.

No I haven't. I don't know much about that. How does that work? Do I need to add Limestone etc etc??? I thought I would try this one last thing before the D & H stuff I spoke to you about.

I had tried Tiger Oats before and they did stuff all.

Yeah there is a soaked oats diet. Think _SN_ had the recipe.

Personally with boyo (corrys BF

) I would just feed Alfa and soaked oats. I feed a liquid balancer so knew he had all the correct vit/mins etc.
It just worked out cheaper. As like you, I was feeding a competition feed plus oats.
This way it was just simpler.

The performance concentrate was good in that it didnt add calories to an already overweight heffer, but gave him energy

Umm sounds like stuff I should be having

I'm loving her at the moment as we had a fab jumping lesson as I actually had to check her for the first time in god knows how long instead of kicking
