Hi
Does anyone recommend any good feeds with good quality protein to help build muscle on my Horse. He is an extremely good doer and if fed the wrong thing does easily fizz up. He is currently fed Hi-Fi and pony nuts plus vits and mins. What he is getting he is holding his weight fine. He is just lacking the muscle. He works in a consistent outline and freely across his back, but the muscle just isn't building. Any ideas?
Thank you

I use Topspec balancer aswell. Fab stuff

Whilst I have absolutely no idea whether it works or not, I got a voucher through the post the other day for http://www.equitop-myoplast.co.uk

There are a few things which spring to mind about it, firstly if they are giving away £15 off vouchers, it probably costs megabucks, secondly you can only buy it though vets, so it probably costs megabucks, and thirdly there are no ingredients listed so you haven't a clue whether something you are already feeding covers what is in this already.

I feed topspec balancer too...

As well as using a pessola for 15 mins twice a week, I found that feeding equilbra 500 really helped build muscle on my gypsy cob - which is want I wanted as I did not want fat.

The pessola was good, but the difference really came through when I fed the equilbra.

Far preferred it to blue chip which put on weight rather than muscle. It supplemented the simple system diet I feed as it gave them more protein which they need to build muscle.

Has never fizzed up any on mine - I have used in on my TB, WB and the cob.

I have quite a sharp TB that tends to get a bit fat in his tummy but lacks muscle and top line - apart from getting a new trainer and changing the way I have been working him I have also put him on Baileys All Round Endurance mix which is good for stamina without fizzing them up - I have to say I have been so impressed with this feed - he has for the first time got real topline and looks and feels great - he is happier in his work and has long term energy rather than silly spooky energy. Your best bet is to ring some of the feed lines and see what they recommend - what works for one won't work for all - unfortunately it is a bit trial and error!! Hope this helps.

Unfortunately we are lacking in hills where i am. Had a nosy at the Cavalor website - looks like some useful stuff on there. But neither my horse nor i are at that level of competition fitness. So a little to much for what i need.

I have been looking at the feed balancers. I can maybe save on some supplements. People have ment6ioned they use these. How are they to help build muscle? A lot of them say they help with 'condition' but my pony being a good doer, i am a little worried about the weight gain.
How do you choose as to which one would be best for your horse - there are so many of them on the market all claiming to do pretty much the same thing. Confusing!!

in that case you want top spec leisure or light both are designed for good doers at different levels. I would feed the leisure as you want to build muscle not just maintain it

Increased Protein builds muscle tissue but a good balance of calories and carbohydrates is required too.

This must be accompanied by muscle building work, which contrary to some peoples belief is more walking which works twice as many muscles than any other pace - especially uphill walking.

Therefore when looking for feed, look for a higher protein content. I think the standard is 11 - 16% and the higher are possibly 20%.
