For those that do -

What feeds and quantities do you give to add condition/weight and sparkle?

I have a WB (more TB side than draught) that I plan to do County RH classes on with a view to side saddle, maybe show hunter if he fills out more in the next few years. He isnt carrying a huge amount of condition at the minute but is by no means thin.

PM me if you prefer :)

Have a look at D & H Build & Glow, that's quite good. If he can tolerate barley then Barley Rings which has added linseed in might also help although micro barley is just as good. Another thing that is great for weight gain is soaked grass pellets; stud nuts are also very good (but not the mix!) As much forage as he wants along with good turnout plus working correctly will all help. There are bound to be other suggestions for you.

Have a look on Horse Gossip, that's more geared towards showing.

As Maesfen says, different people will all have their opinions! The old school thought is lots of fibre (sugar beet and chaff) plus straights - oats, maize, barley etc plus oils.

Unfortunately my horse struggles to break down all the cereals (horses weren't really designed to eat them) and got cramps from all the proteins.

So I called the Top Spec Feeds helpline (its free) and they were brilliant. I now have him on Alfalfa (protein and calcium rich), a balancer for all his vits, minerals, biotin and probiotics plus performance cubes for energy and sparkle and Linseed oil for shine. He's never looked or felt so well!

My show hunter is on Top Spec (comprehensive balancer) and hi fi with some veggie oil added in and ad lib hay, he is upto weight with good topline and looks great - I know this might not work for all horses but at least with a balancer you know he's getting everything he needs might be worth giving them a call and see what they say good luck :)

The top spec feeds seem very popular, i feel that i need to feed a balancer of sorts as mine is not getting much at all in the way of feed, he does have diamond omega supplement, but i have no experience of feeding balancers, so any advice will be welcome

When I called Top Spec they were really helpful and sent me lots of info in the post at the end of the day you can ring for some advice your not obliged to buy their products but it may make some queries you have a little clearer :)
