Hi all

I've bought a unbroken 5 yrs old been riding her a couple of months now and just been feeding chop and nut as didnt want to feed her anything that will fizz her up whilst i don't know her.
As the summer grass is comming to an end well in her field anyway I want to start feeding her something that will help top line condition ect with out the fizz also she 18hh so with me not knowing her,
Any ideas??

Thanks we are schooling now, she is now loosing a bit of weight due to lack of grass but don't want to feed something thas going to fizz her up with her been young still x

Horse's (like any animal) can't lay down muscle without quality protein in their ration. Investigate putting her on a balancer pellet (eg Equilibra, Topspec etc) for the protein and vits and mins part of her diet and then feed something like alfa -oil for both energy and protein, and see how that goes. That will minimise fizz. Most important is to ensure that your forage is of the best quality you can get as it makes up such a large proportion of their diet it has the biggest impact. You can always add further energy sources if still required at a later date.

Calm & Condition did the opposite to one of my horses, it really sparked him off. I realised that it was the barley content that affected him. I changed to Ride & Relax & there is no problem now. This is fed with some Baileys Lo Cal Balancer & with correct work both of mine have good topline, are extremely fit & compete BSJA weekly.
