Hoping someone can give me some advice...

Today my horse was seen by Mctimoney therapist (back lady). I have only owned my horse since autumn 2011 and this was the first time he has been examined that i am aware of.

She has suggested that i feed him topline/fibre cubes to improve his topline and muscle condition.

Can anyone recommend a brand or good experiences with particular products?

Today i purchased a bag of Baileys Top Line conditoning cubes (split the cost with a friend as her horse needed the same, to see how we get on).

Also, any exercises i can do? She has recommended carrot stretches to do until she returns in 3 weeks to work on him again.

The best thing to improve topline is correct work, plenty of time warming up and cooling down, working long and low, getting the muscles relaxed and stretching, before picking up and schooling, it takes time to see the improvement but only using his muscles correctly will create his topline. Hacking up hills is also good provided the horse is going properly and using himself.

Obviously diet can help, the nutrients are required to build the muscles, I find Baileys good but it will not do the job without the work.

Carrot stretches are helpful, before and after exercise if you can, as is a good groom or strapping of the neck, shoulders and quarters.

Agree with above, you can't feed top line on to them...BUT you do need to feed for the work it takes to build top line.

Stick to fibre and fat with some protein in there.

Top line cubes are good, but you can get better. Something like Saracen equijewel, or D&H build and glow are both very good. Micronised linseed is a great, cheap way of feeding oil in their diet.

You cannot feed for topline, you can feed for condition which when combined with the correct training regime will aid topline development :)

Thats like eating so you get lovely DD's :P

Just to add he's lost a little bit of condition recently too. Mmmm i live in fenland...absolutly zero hills or even slight inclines!!!
