My lad (a 25yr old 17hh wb x tb) lost some weight over winter and is really struggling to put it back on. He is currently fed:

1 Round scoop A&P Veteran Vitality (before being soaked)
1 Round scoop Ready Mash Extra
1 Round scoop Alfa A Molasses Free
Palm full of garlic
Palm full of seaweed

He is having this twice a day. He lives out as doesnt stable on his own and the livery who has the only other stable never goes down to bring hers in at night and leave her in field. They have almost Ad lib haylage but the grazing is soooo poor (i'm currently looking to move somewhere nearer to home with better grazing)

Is there anything i can give him in the meantime to help put weight on?

oh and i wormed him last week, i've had the vet out who took bloods, which came back clear, and i've just had his teeth check so all that is ruled out as a potential problem. and he's still in his MW weight rug to prevent him using up energy to stay warm in the cooler days)

If you can only feed twice a day then you need to concentrate on high calorie feeds. The Ready Mash Extra and the Veteran Vitality are both about 11 MJDE/kg, so you could swap these for one higher calorie conditioning feed - for example Bailey's Topline Cubes are 13.5 MJDE/kg.

My old girl is on Conditioning Cubes they really help her. She is on a scoop daily at the momnet until the grass comes through for maintance but when she lost weight a couple of years ago put her straight on this and the weight came on no problem - think it was 2 scoops a day she was on but was away at uni at the time so mum took care of feeding.

I would cut out the garlic and feed Yea-sac to improve the digestion of fibre in the hind gut
Try eg Top Spec balancer instead of the seaweed

You say wormed but do you worm for tapeworms as a routine as well

It has def been a difficult winter, my oldest has Cushings, I clipped him a couple of weeks ago as his coat was so heavy and he too has lost weight. Grass is just coming thank goodness but that brings the risk of lami.

Teeth????

Allen and page calm and condition
Sugarbeet
Baileys outshine (high calorie)
Oils
Baileys conditioning cubes

Try Baileys Outshine that stuff is fantastic for weight gain and general condition. Have had good results with Equivite Bodybuilder too but this is more of a short term supplement to get weight back up and it's fairly pricey but still good stuff.

If you can only feed twice a day, I would feed the following in each feed:

Half recommended amount topspec balancer
half scoop outshine
half - 3/4 scoop topspec conditioning muslea
make rest of feed up with sugarbeet/alfa-a oil

you can always add a slosh more veg oil in there as well

For the weight gain either or both of Full fat soya and linseed.
You can buy them separately or there is a product called lingold which has both together. We use it at the rate of about a mug full per feed over the winter. If anything they have put on weight and have really shiny coats.
