Any suggestions and/or pro's and cons to topping up on condition? - sugerbeet or barley rings? Currently feeding Alfa A oil and Top line conditioning cubes. He's 3 years old/TB and only had him 6 weeks.... so a bit trial and error! or should I wait to see if improves on existinig feed? Was previously stabled 24/7 and believe he was on a racehorse mix, he's now turned out (rugged at night) but has dropped a little weight.... Any advice would be appreciated!

I find barley rings quite heating (even on my lazy old cob!) though they are good for condition too.
For a non heating conditioning feed, build up cubes by dodson and horrell are good.

I love using Baileys No' 1 for weight gain. Its looks a bit like breadcrumbs and is very palatable. Its non heating and they seem to love is. It whacked the weight back on James after he was serverly ill last year and lost tons of weight.

When we first got Jack (TB) he was super skinny. We fed him on (not sure what its called but was in yellow? bag) was really £20+ and didn't do anything for his weight.

Now he is now fed on sugar beet during the winter, start and end of summer. Alfa-a original, baileys no.4 and soya oil (soon to be vegetable oil) And 24 hours turnout on grass.

But he looks more thin than he is just because of his build, he has a very fine TB frame.

Just need to be a little wary of too much too soon as he's a growing boy dnt want to over stress any joints or over feed causing development problems.

Barley is a non heating feed, sugarbeet isnt ideal in the "summer" just cos it attracts flies and goes off quite quickly.

It might be worth looking at the youngstock feeds or even contact some of the helplines from the feed companys.

Might be worth trying balanced feeds showmix which was developed to keep weight on TBs or the new Winergy equilibrium range
