I've been thinking of ways to entice my fussy TB to eat her feed, and was wondering if it's possible to blend up a apple and a carrot (poss 2), and mix it in with the feed? Though I'm guessing it would be very sugary.

What are people's oppinions on this? Has anyone tried it?

Thanks.

I have grated up apple and/or carrot into feeds to disguise drugs etc. and that worked really well so I should think if you chopped it in a blender that would be fine too!

How about dried mint? It can be bought in tubs like (or even mixed with) garlic. Naf do one i think thats designed for this problem.
I cant see why your idea would be a problem though. My pony has carrots every day in his feeds.

Is there a reason your TB won't eat the feed? E.g. it has bad tasting drugs or something in?

If horse is off food it could be spring grass being more enticing (and TBH probably the best possible feed anyway) but if not that could be teeth/other health issues.

Thank you for the replies.

Nope, nothing to cover up in her feed, she just doesn't like any sort of chaff or anything that has to be soaked. I've tried lots of feeds over the past year and her current combination is perfect (for her work load, maintaining weight, etc), so I don't want to change it.

I've tried mint and other herbs but they don't make her eat. I would chop up apples and carrots, but she'd pick them out and leave the rest, hence I'm asking about blending fruit instead.

Yes, her teeth, etc are all checked regularly and are fine.

I think I might give the fruit puree a go.
