feeding hay/haylage

About 1/3 in a small holed haynet and 2/3 in a big bucket. Not really sure why

Don't really like haynets as a rule, but prefer a small holed one up high compared to her standing with nothing for hours.

I’ll be honest and say I feed Bodey hay in a small holed haynet, because he is a greedy bugger and if I didn’t it would be gone in minutes. He can’t have more because he is a fat-so. It just slows him down.

On the floor. Not getting stuck in a haynet is a secondary consideration for me. I prefer the floor bcause its better for the horses back and respiratory system

I use haynets as I fill enough up for the whole week for my horses which saves a lot of time of an evening when you have 3 to exercise everday. In all my years of having horses I have never had a problem with haynets.

On the floor as mine are out in the field, but I am going to buy a hay hutch for this winter to save on waste.

Always on the floor, so much research now suggests this is better for them, been feeding off the floor for a long time now. If i had a messy horse i would buy a haybar straight away, i would like one, but there is no rush she eats hers in the field 99% of the time

Depends on the horse! In the stable, if horse is not too greedy and can be trusted not to foul the hay, then I prefer it fed off the floor. If that is not the case then I opt for a small mesh haynet or a hayrack.

However when they are in the field then it is always off the floor. (They usually spend more time in the field than the stable anyway.)

I feed mine in small holed haynets and a hose it first to get rid of some dust and I also find less ends up in my horses bed if I feed it wet instead of dry. If I fed it from the floor she would eat it too quickly and drag it into her bed. Have tried using a bucket once but she just kicked it over so it was on the floor instead.

On the floor, although I'm considering alternatives as there's nothing my mare likes to do more than dig her hay into her bed and poo all over it.

Was using a tub on the floor until a couple of weeks ago when I moved to a new yard where the last occupant of the stable kindly left a haybar! However, as she is currently on box rest, she is having half in the haybar and half in a small holed haynet to keep her occupied a little bit longer.

Small holed haynet. My measly rations for him would be gone in ten minutes, he is so greedy and doesnt come up for air till its all gone.
Haybar was disaster, he just threw it on the floor with his nose then scoffed it !
