how does everyone feed theirs? Ive got two horses who get on fairly well in a 2 acre paddock, however hay has to be fed from the floor as we have no where to put nets, yes its great feeding as nature intended but its spoiling the grass! I've seen te hay hutch thingies which look good but i think the look expensive for what they are...... anyone else have any ingenious ideas?

I have the same problem and have changed tactics. I lay my hay in a very large circle dropping a large clump every metre or so.

The horses are not standing in one spot as they would if I was using a trough or come other container, they keep moving by eating from one mound and moving on to the next. They can go round this clock several times until all of the hay is gone.

I have used this method in all weathers; sun, wind, rain and snow and it works a treat, the grass does not spoil as I can move my clock around at will.

You can have fun and create two large circles or a figure of 8

I used to feed hay on the ground but wasted an enormous amount as they would pee and poo on it and a lot got churned into the mud so I then tied 4 pallets together to make a "box" and put the hay in there - perfect, no waste etc and easy to dismantle and move. Then, even better, a friend who was having some building work done, gave me a couple of wooden crates in which roof tiles had been delivered - again, perfect and easy to move (although heavy!).
