My lot are still out 24/7 but as the grass is nearly gone & doesn't seem to be growing back with much enthusiasm i'm thinking will have to start feeding hay soon.....anyone already been feeding hay out in field for a while already?

No, sorry....:o

Still got loads of grass & prob will have till mid/late October. Even the last used paddock which they came out of only 3 weeks ago already has a good covering on it again & will do for a breeze over in about 4 weeks.

Hope not to be haying at all till they come in at night around end of October/early November

Yes I am. I'v got plenty of grass too but I'v been putting a few slices out each night as it keeps them quiet! How bad is that! They're not ready to come in at night yet, the tb would freak but they're beginning to get a spring in their step, galloping around the field, getiing up to mischief (breaking fencing etc, ripping rugs!). A bit of hay seems to keep them busy and makes them happy! :)

i feed hay all year anyway (she lives out 24/7 365 - has plently of grass - 10acres between 3 horses) - she just seems happier to have a bit of course fibre every day and before i realised that she would get constipated or sloppy over summer - the hay seems to keep her more regular and consistant (yes i know my horse far too well :o)
she's only on a wodge a day at the mo but come mid winter it will be up to nearly a small bale a day

Quick glance over my field & you can b misled to think loads of grass but the winter last year seemed to kill the majority & replace it with loads of weeds:( Despite us weed killing autumn/spring, not over grazing etc etc we have very little. Slim nags tho lol, and yes they are doing hoolies too!!!

Nope, way too much grass, 3 very very good doers on 3 acres, 2 of them muzzled, the other won't keep it on no matter what i try, i didn't have grass til end Jun, mid Jul tho and then it just went bazooka all over the place.

I am now and started sat
As very little grass and hasn't even attempted to grow and horses are starting to get hungry

We have been feeding hay during the day as ours in daytime and out at night. Still plenty of grass but we do section off parts of the field to rest and poo pick daily. Got v wet poo picking today in gales and rain!

We had to feed hay for a couple of weeks in the field as we had no grass and had shut off our other field to give the grass a chance to grow. Now we have grass so have stopped feeding hay again and have rotated the fields. This is the first time we have ever had to feed hay in August/September  :(

If the growing conditions stay like this we shouldn't have to feed any more hay until end of October/ beginning of November as we usually do.
