well

ive been offered to have a ranch rent free to provide hacks and lessons as part of a holiday centre in south of tenerife!!!

We have for a while been looking into this, and all of a sudden this has come up!

I know the horses dont eat hay and grass like they do here. I have plantly of contacts over there but it just worries me!

they feed beet pulp, alfa (in very small quanities) oat straw, and grass nuts.

Does anyone know the feed costs and avail of hard feed and forage in southern spain?

I used to pay:

9 -10 euros for a 30kg sack of whole oat
13 euro for a sack of pienso (horse mix, made by feed merchant)
9 euros a bale for alfalfa
7 euros a bale for avenate (oat straw with heads still on)
4 euros a bale for straw (wheat straw, which they do feed in places)

Hay, beet and grass nuts weren't available where I was (Almeria)

Bear in mind I didn't buy in bulk, but your main costs are going to be due to transportation - even my straw and avenate came from Leon, north of Madrid.

Go for it! Watch out for my dressage horse Zipper Lane, who was exported to Tenerife this year. I can probably get you a contact of the owner of the livery yard that he is at if you want, PM me if so.
