feeding horsehage

ok bought a bale of horsehage high fibre today fror my 27 year old nf mare, i have never fed it to her before and i have just been told that i shouldnt give it to her straight away and that i should introduce it slowly because of colic. Now i am getting worried, i didnt give her a full net, actually gave her less than the amount of hay i give her just to see if she would eat it all

should i be worried?

If you can mix it with your hay to start with that would probably be best but having said that I am very irresposible and change direct from hay to haylage and have not yet (touch wood) had any problems. Saying that mine are spoilt brats and if given haylage with hay would probably leave the hay and give me some mfilthy looks lol

yes i agree if i had put hay in she prob wouldnt touch it as we dont have very good hay atm, thats the reason why shes on horsehage as shes coughing quite bad
