i have an 8month old cob colt, hes currently living out but his field is mostly mud due to all that rain we had, hes with another foal and 2 older mares, they currently get given piles of hay twice a day to make up for the lack of grass, alhough they dont seem to be losing any weight?
is this enough or should i get him a hard feed to give him every night too? if so, any ideas/suggestions as to which one?

any help/ideas would be great as he is my first foal so i'm warey about feed.

xx

If none of them are losing weight, they are getting enough to eat. It is not a good idea to feed youngstock up on hard feed as they grow too quickly and out of proportion, which can cause all sorts of problems. If you do decide at some point that your foal needs a bit more, I'd give him grassnuts, or grass chaff which will be easiest for him to digest.
