my 17h hunter has an awful lack of energy ! hes fed on a handful of hifi, scoop of spillers energy mix and garlic and super solvitax ra formula ....
he is slightly over weight but hes ridden 5/6 days a week, and the slightest bit of new grass and his belly comes up again !(hes out 24/7 at the min)
can anyone give me any advice on possible feeds ? someone suggested to me to split his feed as during the summer he gets fed at night after ive ridden, but they said to feed him twice a day ?

I'd phone up a few feed companies and ask for some advice. Dodson and Horrell were particularly helpful and have helped me turn my poor doer with not much energy into a well conditioned more forward going lad. Allen and Page were also helpful.

you say ridden 5/6 days a week, what do you do with him, schooling? hacking? Why I ask is fitness plays a big part in all of this. Just riding a horse alone will not fitten him. Are you doing lots of canter work? I only ask this as last year we were concerned that our little mare was lacking in energy but after about 2 months of correct work, and fittening her energy levels improved dramatically.. I am a great beleiver in fittening, just feeding won't give energy, just makes them fat!!

he is schooled 4 out of the 6 days and i have a lesson once a week, he is hacked out on sand dunes and also on the beach atleast once a week aswell so he is pretty fit .. ?
