I started feeding my mare NAF Magic powder to calm her nerves and make her less hormonal. Then I moved yards and the yard owner fed her mares the Magnesium that she fed the cows. So she gave me some to feed to my horse and it has been working brilliantly.

However, now, I have run out of the magnesium she gave me and I don't want to have to spend excessive amounts buying Magic again. Does anyone know where I can get magnesium for feeding cows?

Thanks

I think it was Calcined Magnesium that she's been having. I just can't find anywhere to get it from

Thanks for that, they also sell Calcined Magnesate which is what Annie has been having so I will definately be buying some and its about a third of the price of magic! Yey!!

You need less Mag Ox than the cow stuff - it is higher grade and much more easily absorbed than the Calcined Magnesate. Better for horses - as I was told by someone on this forum.

Calcined Magnesite (or cal/mag as us farmers call it).

Most agricultural feed merchants will sell it. It's only about £8.50 a sack.

The recommended level of Mg for the average 500kg horse is 25gm per day, cal-mag is only 50% mg therefore you would need to feed 50gm per day, the cheapest way is to go to your nearest agri store and buy a sack which costs around £10 ish for 25kg.
