Feeding meat? What kind?

I've come to accept that although Popple will eat a moderate (read pretty tiny

) amount of biscuits per meal, she is too picky to have it as the bulk/bigger part of her diet (she says with the best part of TWO £40 each bags of biscuits in her cupboard

SO, although I feed her some scrambled egg, or tuna to get her to eat up for some meals, for most we mix the biscuits with meat. When this was just a moderate amount to tempt her, then I was happy buying just brand tins; winalot, pedigree chum etc, and this week I have bought some ceasar as it was on offer...

However, this is a bit of a grey area for me as Puppy always had a sensitive stomach with meat and had to stick to dry food predominantly (hence having so much of the good stuff in the cupboard

I was wondering - are there particular brands of meat that you would recommend?

Is ceasar ok? She seems to like pedigree chum & winalot, but I worry they aren't the most nutritious long term, and she is a very active little beast who I want to keep in tip top shape

I am thrilled to say she has put on weight recently, and looks so well my friend who lives a few doors up said he could see the shine on her coat from his window when I was putting her in the car a few days ago

But, I wanted to make sure that long term they are good for her, or is there something else you would recommend?

The scrammbled egg is great for their coat.
Have you ever thought about feeding real meat? either raw like with the barf diet ( i can help you with that if thats what you decide to try) or cooked meat?
 
Why not try some of the more 'natural' meat packs you can buy?

I wouldn't personally feed the tinned stuff longterm - ideally at all - much like any complete food from a Supermarket eg Bakers - colours and additives spring to mind and not brilliant meat quality either I should imagine.
Do you have a Pets at Home type store near you?

There are the frozen packs like Prize Choice - frozen mince

Or there are things like Natures menu all in one - they come in packs and are fairly long life but are generally better for your dog than Pedigree tins etc. Often hypo-allergenic, dairy free, etc, I tried Wainwrights all in one the other week (I feed raw, but do agility so camp over the weekends during show season and find it's not really that easy to take chicken wings and mince and bones and keep them smelling nice! hehe!) and was pleasantly surprised at the ingredients list - even had glucosamine!

She does like her egg, and I tend to cook it with some sunflower oil in the pan, add the egg and a touch of water, then when it's half cooked throw in the handful of biscuits so they taste yummy too. When I was cooking it and then mixing it with the biscuits afterwards, she would pick them out and leave them...

Although I cook this for her, and mix some dishes with tuna, I don't want to have to cook every single meal as my work commitments don't always allow the time as well as the walks she needs... Hence I was wondering if there was a good brand on meat I could reply on as well as the eggs and tuna

So how about raw meat, surprisingly it works really well for sensitive tummies! and its pretty cheap and i find it keeps them more full up less likely to beg or try to steal food.

Chicken and rice is one very good combo , also recommend the odd scrambled egg I get raw meat on the bone from the Hunt kennels and also a complete food as well
 
this is just an additional "asking" question to add in here

Some people feed raw chicken wings etc right? So do you just hand over a chicken wing and say knock yourself out?! Cause what I understand is that thats ok, as the bones don't shatter like cooked ones, and if they swallow them whole they are relatively flexible enough to cope with it?!

Also, a heard a raw egg on their feed is good for coats etc too...... I feed James Wellbeloved complete junior food, so do I just drop a raw egg in with it?! (Obviously minus the shell!) or am I better doing scrambled egg or something?!

Yep just hand over a chicken wing take a deep breath and step away! hehe! It does seem a bit worrying at first - a couple of mine have tried swallowing them whole but if you think yours might do this you can always hold it and get them to chew on the end 'til you think they have got the idea! Mine that have swallowed them whole - it has always come back up to be chewed properly! A good learning curve for the dog too!! hehe!

Eggs just chuck a raw egg over pups biscuits - probably no more than a couple of times a week though - you can also include the shell - it's good for them

Or use a food mixer to blend a whole egg inc. shell and pour over biscuits

Fab, thanks MandD!!!

Will give it a go and see what he thinks, he already has a nice coat but cause of it getting warmer he is shedding alot more so lots more brushing involved so want to keep it nice and healthy!:)
 
Puppy - I assume the biscuits you have got are JWB or something similar. Try adding a cup of hot Bovril to them - Sweep has JWB and one of the flavours he isn't keen on and because I'm a bad mummy I forget which one it is until I have put them in his bowl. He then sits there looking at me as if I have tried to poison him until I either add hot water or Bovril!! Then he licks the bowl clean....
