is it ok to give my dog fruit / veg ?? i prefer to use little bits of carrot for training etc as he is a toy dog under 5kgs, if i use dog treats i don't want him to become over weight.

he hadnt had any lunch so when i bought mine i got him a bag of kiddies carrot sticks from macdonalds, and used them as rewards for training exercises. but later that day his poo was very orange (understandably)

he also likes sprouts and sugar snap peas etc

are these all ok for him to eat?? ( i know grapes and raisons are a no no)

Yes they are all ok

Also don't feed onion (or onion family like leeks) or avocados as they not good for dogs.

mine loves blueberries and strawberries. I often give him carrot or other veg - then to steer clear from lettuce tho cos it is a slight laxative

Absolutely fine. Stella's favourite food in the world is kale, but she also regularly gets baby carrots, blueberries, apples, snap peas, green beans, courgettes, squash...among others.

Just keep an eye on his poop, and if it's too runny, cut back a bit.

By all accounts, unless the fruit and veg is blended the dog cannot absorb the nutrients, and the fruit/veg comes out as it went in!

So not much point feeding it if not blended as no benefit.

Yes - I used to give my old Border Collie (now at the Bridge) pieces of orange. I suppose as she got older she digested less well as I never noticed it before. Anyway, while picking her poo up I noticed a load of worm eggs in it. Treated her, but still kept finding more eggs. Was at a total loss as she's never had worms before, and didn't look wormy. In the end, my vet's did a poo analysis. Guess what? What I thought was worm eggs was undigested orange segments. Ooops. Poor doggie.
