My puppy much prefers real meat to dried food, but I am keen to stick with dried food with a bit of meat so he eats it. He is on the lean side so I do want him to eat! If I give him chicken he will just eat it off the top and not eat the buiscuits. I have done some research and naurediet or naturesmenu seem to come up as good quality. Can I feed these with the dry? Dry food is either origen or burns.

thanks

Can you not feed raw/cooked meat if he likes it so much? He will certainly bulk up and I found it much cheaper to do than dry once I got into the swing of things.

Asda, Tesco and Iceland have great stuff in the bargain bins! Or raw days and dry/cooked days? But the raw afficionados say that you don't feed raw at the same time as cooked/dry.

if i was going to feed cooked food how would i do that? I like the idea of raw but I am worried about doing it right, also dont have much space. I like the convience of feeding something easy.

Try PMing KarynK or Katielou_Houston, they are the raw experts on here :)

Like I say, once I got into it, I didn't find it any more difficult and I got great pleasure from seeing how much they enjoyed it. Sadly my male can't handle too much protein so it didn't work out for him but he gets raw maybe twice or three times a week and I would definitely do it again.

Turkey drumsticks are only £1.41 in our Asda and I once got five boxes of chicken thighs, drumsticks and wings from Iceland for about £2 because the dates were short.

Cooked is just cooked - cooked chicken, liver, just whatever you would be having, buy in a wee bit extra for the dog :) or tinned tuna, sardines, scrambled eggs, whatever!

What a sensible puppy!!! I would not feed any raw near kibble, it's dangerous especially if there are bones involved as the feeds move at different speeds through the gut. Orijen I would think would be ok as it is high protein very low carbohydrate food. But Burns being a carbohydrate laden totally dry food should not be fed with raw diet but I have no experience with Naturediet or Naturesmenu. The only non human quality thing I feed is the Prize Choice frozen Tripe.

If he is eating raw I personally cannot see the point in cooking it? It is not difficult to feed raw buying it regularly for one dog and it's really only a case of taking off the wrapping (ask CC about that one!!). Most of the Major supermarkets do budget ranges of chicken wings and legs which you can use as the basis of the diet and providing you feed a variety of meaty bones, offal, eggs and a bit of liquidised veg over a 2 week period your dog will have a satisfying, natural balanced diet without the need for supplementation. I do feed one cooked item and that is tinned sardines in oil or pilchards in tomato sauce served with some eggs and a bit of veg!

It will of course be a little more expensive as you will not be bulk buying from a butcher, but there is nothing stopping you buying a large pack of wings for instance and feeding that for a few days until it runs out, then the next day some offal with liquidised veg and then perhaps lamb bones or pork ribs, whatever is on special offer at the time. Once you get a routine it is so easy, mine even get frozen stuff when I forget to defrost.

The last few nights ive put some minced beef with his buiscuits (microwaved so its cooked) and he has eaten all his food and licked the bowl. So will try cooked with the biscuits for now, and may look at raw if I ever feel brave enough!!
