We make hay from one of two places usually so I know exactly what it is and what’s in it.
I have had the newer of the two tested before using to check sugar levels etc.

This year we made a small amount off my summer field. Being a horse or two down it has a bit of a rest and grew tall and went to seed so mainly to tidy it up we baled it.
It was mown in the evening and baled in the evening (I know mowing later in the day is good unsure if baling time is relevant)

It’s probed well on the moisture meter so I’m going to keep it.
Q is, as it’s their own grazing and they eat it as grass with no issue so I need to get it tested still or should it be fine to feed?
There is absolutely no rye, all meadow grasses from a seed mix for pony grazing.
I am cautious as have two metabolic type ponies and an over weight horse.

If you didn’t have those problems with your horses I’d say get on and feed it.

But if testing it isn’t dreadfully expensive get it tested. No point in taking chances.

It’s great what can be done these days. In my youth (45 years ago god help me!) you bailed it out it in the hay barn and as long as it had been left for at least 3 months you fed it!! Happy days…..

I would soak it for a while just to be safe.

I try and buy some old stuff if I can get it and just mix a small amount in, but I don't think there is much old stuff around now.
