I'm hoping to bring Scoobie to the dog meet and maybe do some other holidays over the summer with him but I'm wondering what to do about food.

He's given adlib biscuits (JWB) now because he struggles to eat meals in a set time, it doesn't matter if its one meal a day or 6, he won't eat much or any, so after finding a food that he likes and discussions with the vet we decided that keeping a bowl of biscuits available at all times is whats best for him and he's looking better than ever now and he's feeling great as well (paw to the face as he was bouncing around proved that!) but I'm wondering how it will work if we are away and he is too excited or if we are out all day would he find food only being avaliable at night confusing and go off his food again. That seems like a very silly question now I've written it down.

Just because he doesn't eat at set times I don't want him to go hungry while we are away from home because there isn't food avaliable 24/7 or wind up any other dogs. I want to get a plan in place before we leave. Any advice?

He really won't eat at set times btw, god knows why, vet is at a loss and has laods of tests done and can't find a reason. He's just Scoobie!

Abe went 13 days without eating more than a mouthful when we changed him to 2 feeding times a day!

When my brittany won't eat when we are away at something (simply because he is so excited) we have things like tuna, mackral and egg just soft easy things for him to eat that he doesn't have to take time over like the rest of his meat.

Have you tried scoobie on RAW?

Do you stand and watch him at the set times? Dogs can feel pressure from us even when we don't mean it and if he is a stressy head anyway, if he is getting 'oh please eat, oh dear, oh dear, what's up?' vibes, he won't know what the vibes are, he will just sense pressure associated with those times and he will be less likely to eat.
(Not that I am against adlib feeding BTW)

Apart from when you are with other dogs, would there be a problem leaving food down near your tent/holiday home etc?
Personally I don't like to feed either side of a car journey, up to 90 mins but that is me being a bloat/torsion paranoid :p

You could take it (or chicken, or something else) in pockets and toss little bits on the floor out on a long walk (keep portions small and evenly spaced) and get him some of his allowance that way.

Plus, always remember, you say he won't eat at set times - he is a dog, he will not starve himself, if the last option is eating at a set time, he will do it.

I don't watch him while he eats, he takes too long!!! I've never watched my dogs eat and after seeing what happens when you do (OH has a lab and they watched him eat as a puppy and now hes neurotic about food)

There will be no problem leaving food around in the tent if there is no dogs around so will try that and will take both of your advice and will take tasty smelly things with me (fish is his favorite thing, followed by chicken and then egg!) Had egg today on his dinner and he wolfed it down.
I won't feed him straight away after a long journey as i am also paranoid about bloat, knowing Scoobies luck he would get it!

Will also try doing what you say CC and giving him some food during walk time and will try to start a feeding routine for him again now that he is a bit more...grown up shall we say! Its just as a greyhound he is slim anyway, if he doesn't eat for a few days then he looks awful and looks like he did when we first got him (bag of bones!)
I know realistically he wouldn't starve himself but watching him look awful is not nice. I've gone from a collie who would eat anything and look great to a fussy slim jim greyhound and its still hard making the adjustments 18 months on!
