Hi, I've recently purchased a new horse who has the reputation of being pretty chilled, and for the most part this is true. However, there is nearly always something that makes him spook, it's nothing dreadful and I am quite willing to believe it MY nerves that make him edgy (it's a long time since I've ridden regularly) However thinking about his feed, he gets molasses free hi Fi and Baileys lo cal, added to which he gets salt and biotin. I also give him Global herbs turmeric, and powerstance to provide the coconut oil, could the powerstance be too much for him? It's the only thing I can think of if indeed it isn't just me.

If he really doesn't need the heavy duty cals which are is the powerstance, you could try switching that to micronized linseed.

However if the horse is new to you, you may find that he settles down more when you have formed a closer bond. My mare was awfully reactive when I first bought her, and generally horses of her breed are very chilled, it took some time, and now she is great, even with kids.

She's still more reactive with me, than with a truly confident rider though (I transmit a lot of nerves to the horse, stupid confidence issues!)
