I am buying a little 4 yr old native mare, who has had 2 foals!!! Yes! 2 foals, one alive and one lived an hour in April. She has pined for her loss, she is not so much thin as she is now on grass but really lacks condition. I want her to be able to be a baby for a while after her ordeal of the past couple of years, I'm sure she will bloom with the correct tlc and feed. Any feed suggestions??? I want to keep it simple, my others get a scoop of hifi lite with a balancer in it but is this enough for this little mare who's had such a crap start to life?

I think Hi-Fi with a balancer would be a good start. Maybe swap the Hi-Fi for Alfa-A if she doesn't pick up or add a bit of Speedi-Beet. Resist the temptation to fill her full of conditioning feeds as she's a native and still young. Good luck

Definitely don't stuff her full of food -I had a mare with all sorts of digestive problems because someone did that!
I'd give her dried grass or haychaff with grassnuts if she needs a bit extra, as her digestive system is better able to cope with grass than anything else. Alfala also contains phyto-oestrogens which are not a good idea for an ex-broodmare who you want to get back to normal.
Good luck!

Definitely make sure she receives a full daily ration of a good feed balancer that contains organic selenium (selenium yeast). The UK is commonly deficient in copper and zinc, and about 70% of the UK is also deficient in selenium, so a vit/min supplement or balancer is essential.

I'd use Blue Chip Original, but as long as it's a reputable balancer with organic selenium it should be fine.

Beyond that, it'd just be hay/grass.

I would get the advice from Dodson and Horrell Nutrition - Teressa Hollands.
That is the first call I would get rather than lots of different views here. She is a senior nutritionist :)
