It really all depends on where you buy from - I get a carrier bag of bones, offal etc from my butchers for a £1 a bag - so it can cost me as little as £10 a month. I also get bags of tripe mince and chicken wings etc from the pet shop - anything from £3 - £10 depending on the amount I buy. Other bits are bought from supermarket cheap sections so coast anything from a few pence to a couple of quid depending on what it is I doubt I ever spend more than £30 a month on food - and that is for Max with the hollow legs and Sweep whose eyes are bigger then his stomach......
I feed my 4 Border Collies on Prize Choice raw meat, it cost me about 12.50 pounds on meat a week, they do get a mixer biscuit too and that cost me about 2 pounds a week, so 4 medium sized dogs cost about 14.50 a week to feed, when I went away for a week in the caravan and couldn't take the raw food, I fed them on a good dry food and that cost about 24 pounds for the week to feed them!
I'm confused- I was told about 'DUCK' and 'natures menu' but these are bought frozen and fed raw. It was these I was on about- I'm not brave enough to actually make my own dog food. I can barely cook for myself! It's interesting though.
This tells you how much you need to feed by bodyweight for DUCK, then you can work out the cost to feed it to your dog. Simples!
So, for my girls they should get 632grams per day. Going by the prices somewhere else on the site it would cost me £1.36 per dog to feed their Lamb and Rice, less if I bought in more bulk. So, for 3 dogs, £4.08 per day, £28.56 per week, £114.24 per four week period.
I have three adult pointers, their approx bodyweight is 25kg each.
Lesley is really helpful and the packs of meat are great!
I use one pack for 4 collie sized dogs for breakfast which are around 65p a pack
As we have a good supply of chicken carcasses from the butcher we give this as their other meal of the day/ or fish once a week.
But I still think rawtogo is good value and would be if you sued jsut them - you can also buy packs of various chicken wings/necks/lamb bones if you decided to be a little more adventurous than just the prepacked meat.
I am feeding Natural Instinct complete BARF/ RAW diet. I feed each of my 2 collies/ collie X 500g per day so I get through 1 kilo per day split between 2 meals. The cost is dependant on the meat chosen. Chicken is £2.85 kilo and lamb is £5.35 kilo. Working chicken and turkey are both £2.45 kilo which is the cheapest they do for a complete food.
As it costs a lot I just had a look at the Natures menu site. Their products only contain about half the meat that Natural Instinct do so I would be very concerned about feeding it.
eg. Natures menu Chicken Nuggets contain only 32% chicken. It is also bulked out with 15% rice.
Natural Instinct Chicken contains 80% chicken with bone.
It is a similar story with the other 'flavours'.
Although it is costing a lot I think I will stick with Natural Instinct!!
