Feeding raw rabbit

Don't know anything regarding shot filled rabbits, my lot catch them via their jaws!:D They can eat them raw, I skin & gut them first though. The raw peeps will know, but if mine have a rabbit for tea, they aren't fed anything with it.:)

Yes you should feed no raw meat at the same time as kibble there should be at least 12 hours in between.

Kibble and raw meat have different rates of digestion.

Thats interesting re the digestion rate what can happen? is there enough goodness in rabbit to feed alone or is it best feed as one feed a day and kibble the other as long as there is enough gap?
Thanks

It will be fine as a meal. That's the kind of thing i feed my dogs everyday.

The idea is the kibble will slow down the digestion of the meat. A dogs digestion is built to eat meat not kibble and it is built to digest that meat super quickly and get out the bad stuff quickly.
So if you slow it down with kibble you are potentially giving bacteria a longer chance to be absorbed.

yes you can feed rabbit raw, bones and skin, chopp the feet off

raw and complete mustnt be fed together, both are digested at different rates so not advise to

i feed my whippys raw rabbit, all in moderation with other raw meat/veg/fruit,kibble on different days if you like,if you can feed raw(barf) much better for them if you can..if just freshly caught freeze first to kill all bacteria, then thaw then feed to dogs

if dogs have eaten their kill worm regulary

Ahh got you, that makes sense. so if I don't have enought rabbit, best to feed in the morning as they will digest it faster and kibble in the evening, when they will have a longer gap before the next feed.
Thanks

Yes that should be fine.

Also freezing will do little to kill tapeworm larvae. And dogs should be wormed regularly anyway.

Re tape worm as our eldest Spinone eats anything the cats kill and leave she has to be wormed regularly for tape worm!! she really is a canine dustbin, and the younger one is following in her pawsteps, its a breed thing!

Re the feeding of raw and kibble on the same day, when mine do have raw they have a small (couple of handfuls) breakfast of Skinners at around 8 am, then the wings or whatever at 7 pm, would that be ok KLH?
Evie has a fairly regular diet of raw rabbit as she steals them off the cats, she eats everything including feet :( She is wormed more frequently than the others because of this supplement to her diet.

Ets, just seen the reply re 12 hours between so will have to just space out the meals a little more.

Is it ok to feed raw rabbit including the bones, to dogs along with their normal complete dog food? My son has shot some so I have a supply.
Hi. I feed my dogs 100% raw and rabbits are a part of that and vegetable raw. I wouldn't feed your dogs rabbits that have been shot with a shotgun as they will ingest lead maybe, unless rifle shot, also feeding raw with dry complete can upset the stomach acid level, so do all raw or not at all, having said that a little piece here and there is OK.

Our get abacus dry food diet, if rabbit, venison orthotic birds are avalisblethey get those instead of a meal.
Ni idea why you would need to take a rabbit feet off before feeding to a dog, outs get the whole bird or rabbit, skin, feathers, guts and all.

Freezing slows the bacteria growth right down it doesn't kill it, but thats OK once thawed the dogs digestion takes care of it

There is no need to separate raw and kibble - plenty of us feeding raw topped kibble in performance dogs without any issues whatsoever. The digestion rates is an urban myth. You've only to look at the professional sled teams to see dogs can eat raw and kibble together and be in top condition and healthy

Wow, this is an old thread.

But for the record, my dog is kibble fed as a whole raw diet didn’t suit her. However she does get additional raw meat as and when On the same day she has her regular kibble.
