feeding salt after sweating

No, she has a salt lick in her stable and uses it as she needs it.

If we were competing at a higher level than that would be different, but for general hacking & schooling i think it's unnecessary :)

All mine get a 10ml scoop of table salt in their feed at night. I was once told by a feed company that salt (Sodium Chloride) does not last in the feeds that companys make , I do not use that feed now.

The same as Magnesium which I give one of my horses NOT as a calmer but as he needs it for a health reason. He gets one scop of magic again at night.

My vet advised to give a sprinkle of salt in feed to encourage drinking after one of mine had mild colic.

I make up a tub of 2 parts normal salt to 1 part lo-salt and they each get a spoonful in their feed daily. They also have 'sports' salt licks in their stables. If they have sweated profusely I will give them sachet of electrolytes in their water bucket/feed depends on horse. But here I'm talking about horses that have made a 15-30km trek in 30 degrees plus, not half an hour in the school :)

My mare has a salt lick on her door. First one I have purchased and she is clearly using it which is nice to see :) she can self dose herself with that. She doesn't do anywhere near enough work to get electrolytes :)

I never put salt in the feed, just provide a bucket of salt water and the horse will self regulate its intake. The salt gets into the system a lot quicker this way.

I live in a very very hot country where horse and I sweat buckets and I only add salt to feed (half regular, half lo) when I can actually see salt dry on her coat and when she's in medium-heavy work. Rest of the time I don't find it necessary. She has a mineral lick should she want it.

I put about a teaspoon in Olly's feeds if he has been hunting or very sweaty. He doesn't drink in his stable afterwards and can't put it in the field as my TB is out there and don't want her drinking it! Putting it in his feed is the only way to get salt into him.
