Feeding small breed veteran, advice pse.

Current diet is Naturediet cartons, a third daily plus James Wellbeloved senior dried food.
This has worked very well for the last 5.5 years.

However, P dog is getting a little more choosy about whether she wants to eat and when, as well as losing a little weight, so am looking to overhaul diet.
She's seen vet in the last month, bloods and urine tests run, all good. No current teeth issues (has had a good number removed in 2 traunches). Vet gave food suggestions but P doesnt 'do' just dried food and will hunger strike if that's all that's on offer.

Aged 10+ (I got as an adult from local rescue as came in with multitude of issues having been thrown out of a car on a dual carriageway). Shihtzu type, weighs approx 7kg.

Ideas please for tasty and nutritious food that will maintain or help increase weight a little but isnt the cats Felix! I resort to this once or twice a month......yes, am bad, anything to keep the old bat eating tho.

I'm off to pick up Fuzzy feed soon, so can grab a few things to try.

As you know I’m not a recent dog owner but when both Amber and Jayson were older we took them off dog food and I fed them fresh. I had a lovely butcher who saved bags of off cuts of meat for me and they had kibble and gravy with it but it was a long time. Maybe a cheap cut off beef or a chicken in a slow cooker so nice and soft for her.

Our 2 JRT's, one now 13 yrs, have Forthglade Just Range and Orijen Six fish Kibble, also alternated with Orijen Tundra and Regional Red, no left overs here ! There are several choices of Orijen kibble available including a small breed, puppy, large breed, fit and trim etc. I have found Pet Planet to be the cheapest for the Orijen and usually Fetch for the Forthglade, although sometimes offers are available at 'Forthglade' directly.

Our littlies have fresh or frozen meat. Some they're happy to eat raw and others they prefer cooked. With a fair mix of chicken portions, liver, kidney, beef mince etc they do very well.

P dog not at all keen on anything raw. I'm not too keen on cooking up stuff unless I really have to (like chicken for tummy upsets etc) then I'm not keen on cooking full stop, but will if I have to!
I'll give some of the others a try that you've suggested Andie02.

Interestingly, I've just had an email in from a dog feed company recommending that I try their range of puppy meat. As I've found veteran horse feed good for putting weight on younger models, it appears the reverse is better in dog world.

I boil plain white fish and add a bit to normal food to try and tempt plus some boiled warm water to mix.

TFF, Flicka is doing well and enjoying Bella and Duke but she will also happily eat Forthglade or Naturo. No need for any kibble as they are complete and look very tasty!
