does anyone else feel like they have tried everything to keep weight on but nothing works?
i have a 19 yr old TBxID mare who always loses weight about september time and i can never get it back on her teeth and back etc are fine and she isnt clipped and rugged up well and has enough haylage
have tried everything from baileys D&H etc she is currently fed on a good scoop of Alpha A Oil, D&H veteran mix and barley clusters twice a day and a bran mash once a week
any advice for keeping her weight on

I found that Spillers veteran conditioning cubes worked very well on a TB I had. I fed it twice a day with sugar beat and Alfa A.

Curious about the bran mash - why do you feed that?

Have you thought about introducing a third feed?

Have you heard of/tried Winergy Equilibrium Growth?? I know i keep banging on about it, but honestly its the best conditioning feed i have tried. My boy is now on the maintenance one - the Low Energy. It put the weight on him quite quickly, and didnt make him go crazy like i had found with some conditioning cubes and mixes. I'd give that a go - especially her being a TB x... I'd aso cut out the bran mash as it tends to 'clear them out', especially if you are only feeding it once a week

I tried Winergy on my TB but it didnt work hor her. Didnt help that she didnt really like it and often left it which is annoying as such a waste of money as it isnt cheap!

Best thing that worked for her was Outshine.

Ditto Kittykat (again lol) My tb is on winergy and is doing well on it. It is also very low in starch, the equilibrium senior is about 3% so won't blow her mind. You don't need anything else with it either. Phone the helpline, they are very knowledgeable and helpful. 01908 576277

i think giving her a third feed would probably make her crazy i did try that a while ago but she just left it in the bucket

You don't have to increase the amount you give her - just split it in to three. It can be hugely beneficial - and can mean that the calories are used more productively.

My 25 year old TB has Spillers senior conditioning mix, sugar beet and ad lib haylage. When she lost weight when we moved 2 years ago I gave her boiled barley and Blue Chip as well. She is a very fizzy, stressy sort - likes to be out in the field in daylight hours and doesn't like any change in routine.

I feed by 4 year old TB on Simple Systems-I know she's alot younger than your one but she too has been a nightmare to maintain weight-this stuff has worked brilliantly-she has been at a consistent weight and never looked so good! it seems to have really chilled her out too!

i think i will give the spillers senior conditioning mix a go have read about it on the website and it seems to do everything i want it to do im also going to give her more haylage as she seems to do well on it as its not wet and doesnt make her fizzy

Personally I would go for the cubes - if you're worried about fizzability.

And yes, if she'll eat more haylage, then pile it in.

My 19 year old TB X mare does very well on Baileys No 4 Top Line Conditioning Cubes and D&H Safe & Sound. The cubes are non heating so shouldn't blow her mind. Any fibre is always good. What about trying NAF Pink Powder. Helps oldies get more goodness out of their feeding????
