Hi everyone,
Just a quick question regarding my sisters pony
Shes a 13.2hh Section D x Exmoor, 7yrs and is in light work
She gets half a scoop of mix
Half a scoop of sugar beet
and half a scoop of alfa a

To me, i think shes being fed too much, but then again shes not overweight, and not fizzy whatsoever. Is this right?
Replies much appreciated

That diet wouldnt be giving all the necessary vits and mins. I would cut out the mix as it isnt really contributing much at that amount (except starch - not ideal for a native) and add a general purpose vit/min supplement. You could then increase the alfalfa if needed, according to weight/workload.
If the pony isnt overweight or fizzy then the diet isnt that bad but it could be better if you get what i mean?

Yes i understand! Thankyou for the advice

I aree with teddyt. Cut out the mix and give a scoop of the alfa a instead, plus a vit and mineral supplement.

Or just give the alfa a with a balancer such as baileys low cal.

I feed my three native ponies Hi fi lite, which they have a huge scoop each twice a day, plus speedi-beet and a vit and mineral supplement. They all look good!

If the horse looks right and feels right - then it's probably being fed right.

A horse should have between 1.5 and 2% of its bodyweight in feed including hay and haylage. Also is she rugged or unrugged as this will have a bearing on her condition.

I would contact feed manufacturers and ask their advice.

my 13.2hh dartmoor x gets couple handfulls of hi fi lite 1/4 scoop of pony nuts and equivite and she's slightly over weight. Roll on lighter nights when I can ride more
