I've had dogs all my life and have fed them on many things, but after doing some research (and common sense thinking) I have realised a few things.

It simply didn't occur to me that foods such as brightly coloured Bakers might have bad additives in it, or the fact that it says animal derivatives might include some unsavoury bits of animals...

So I choose to feed my puppy James Wellbeloved, which I hope is (as it claims) high quality dog food with no additives etc etc.

Just wonder what most people feed their dogs on and why and what their feelings are on these high quality dog foods...

I feed my greyhound Hills Science Diet - it is the best thing for putting weight on her (usually

), and although she is very fussy she will eat it when it is topped with raw tripe or cat food. This rather flumoxed the vet who tried to suggest that her liver problems may be due to a poor diet - of course it is the product that all vets recommend

I am VERY lucky to get it at 'Crufts Special Offer Breeders Rate' via my mum - so it is £10 for a 15kg sack, rather than double that from the vets/pet shops etc

My lurcher is exactly the opposite - he puts on weight really easily - so to be honest I feed him rubbish food (e.g. Omega Tasty) so he can have quantity without getting too fat! He always finishes the greyhound's food too.

With other dogs I've had who were 'normal' - e.g. not too fat or thin - I used to feed a medium quality food

My 2 are on Chudleys one on Lite & the young one on performance as I need to get weight on her. For their 1st year I have them on Hill Science but must say I think I have fallen out with it. It is over rated.

Next pup will go on Healthy Paws (which is a "clean" feed) No extras at all just good meat & rice!

my JRT eats Burns (about mugful a day) and Nature diet in evenings, He eats burns very slowly through the day cos he runs about all day, being busy little dog also it's still quite cold, he's on the lean side and at only 16 months old. He's not greedy dog he eats when he need to. I spent approx £11 every 6/7 weeks for a 2kg bag of Burns and 22 trays of nature diet.

I chose Burns/nature diet cos they are hostlic meal which means no additives, or any craps. and Boris loves them. I care about what he eats and wants him to have healthy life as possible.

He gets Sardines on sundays...

I feed James W to both my dogs as the Doberman has the type of thin shiny coat that shows his health in his coat. But they get a doggie muesli in the morning as the Border T has crummy hips so I need something I can dampen and dissolve her Synoquin into.

We have a superb holistic pet store nearby that cooks its own food. Stella is fed "Whiskers Own", which is organic turkey breast, zucchini, squash, broccoli, carrot, bone meal, dog multivitamin, flax, red clover and garlic.

To this, I add the best dog treats available: Dr Bob's Health Nuggets

I also feed her apples, raspberries, blueberries, green beans, kale, bits of salmon and beef, goat yoghurt, brown rice, sardines...and on and on.

As a result of her diet, she is ever so shiny with good muscle tone. Bit like a doggie supermodel, really

Stella is a Super model

I also feed Boris carrots, apples, bits of chicken or liver, peas, rice (with sardines on sundays), he's also a dustbin he'll eat whatever is edible on pavements or in the garden (i have raspberries, blackberries, tomatoes but they are not growing at moment)!

I feed mine James Wellbeloved, my dogs love it and thier coats gleam, it has also helped one of my collies that had really bad scurf, i'm currently setting up a pet supplies shop and mail order store so have been researching feeds quite a bit another good food is Arden Grange, although my dogs prefer James Wellbeloved. It is the food I sell most of in my shop and on the internet too. People from spain buy it for their dogs and ferrets, maybe they don't have it over there?

I feel your pain. Alas, our pavements are disgusting to humans, but a veritable doggie buffet. I have to keep my beady eye on Stella because she tries to wolf down the better finds. I forever sight chicken bones in the gutter (which give me a heart attack) as well as a surprising number of untouched muffins, croissants and bread rolls.

At the park on weekends, there is a table set up that sells coffee and refreshments. The other week a big Shepherd mix jumped up on the table and knocked off two carrot cakes. You can only imagine the number of dogs that ran over to volunteer for clean-up duty...

1.BARF
2.Dogs health
3.Yes - had bad results from JWB
4.No, I wouldn't
5.Because its the most natural and correct diet for a member of the Canidae family
6.I *know* my dogs are fine as they are.

Mine too!! They love sardines, and raw fish heads...

My puppy is fed on Nature Diet mixed with raw meat (generally beef or lamb) because it is all natural. Her breed is prone to skin conditions and food allergies, so I'd rather not take the chance by filling her full of additives and rubbish found in many dog foods.

My huskies are on Royal canin 4300 which is a very high energy food. They used to be on Burns and though looked good on it, burned out too quickly when working. The 4300 gives them a lot more fuel. My Collie is on it as well (think Duracell battery and you are there!) and his coat is like a mirror it's so shiny.
They also get a raw bone once a week and some fresh meat or fish now and then added to their food, especially in the winter when working hard. We tried BARF for 6 months but it didn't suit them. One got anal gland issues on it, had never had before or since. Odd as it's meant to prevent that.

1. BARF
2. Dogs health
3. Yes, I have
4. No, I wouldnt
5. There is no better quality food

Dexter has been completley raw fed for the last 8 months and we have never looked back. Hes happier, calmer and more content (and Im happy

Puppy is on Arden Grange puppy complete. She has a little bit of tripe mixed in. After that, whatever she can get out of the bin if she's quick enough.

2 year old is on Pets at Home own adult complete and also has a little bit of tripe. After that runs off to eat the cat biscuits.

My dogs are fed on our own brand chicken and rice biscuit feed, which is wheat gluten free, it`s suitalbe for dogs that have a delicate tummy and itchy skin, neither of which my dogs suffer from, i feed it because i know it is a good, high quality feed. The recipe was devised by my hubby who is a feed merchant so we know exactly what is in it. The food is very similar to Burns and is half the price!

Both mine used to be on Bakers however Mitzy passed away
frown.gif
and Barney would not eat, after loads of different foods he decided he liked Chappie so Chappie it is with a mixer and he has never looked so good or shiney

Royal Canin for my dogs. They have the breed specific.
I reared my pups on Royal canin labrador puppy and they did really well on it. The more expensive feeds actually work out cheaper in the long run as you feed less.

Beastie gets Burns food. Labs are fed a diet made specifically for them. As Tina is a working dog it is adjusted according to whether it is shooting season or not. Pup gets the same make of food but a puppy version, she will soon be on adult feeds.

sorry saw the title and couldnt resist - yes you should feed your dog, at least once a day if no time nor money (why have a dog) but twice a day is preferable haha!!

My JRT is fed on Nutrience food as I feel it is the best for her, it is the same quality as Hills and Burns but cheaper and the others gave her a bad tummy. I wouldn't change now unless she develops tummy probs again because it took me 4 years of owning her to get the food right in the first place!

Loki gets BARF and homecooked food... basically raw meaty bones in the mornings (eg. chicken wings, lamb ribs, pork belly etc. usually a combination of stuff). Then a homecooked dinner with carbs (eg. rice, gluten free pasta, cous cous) and some (boneless) meat or fish and some veg. He also gets Sea Kelp, pumpkin seeds, flax seed oil, olive oil with dinner.

I give him big bones for teeth cleaning every other day.

If I really need to I'll feed him naturediet with some laughing dog mixer. This is good if we staying the night away somewhere.

I used to give him sardines, but he won't eat them anymore... strange creature...

I like the fact he gets a healthy balanced diet with lots of variety - I mean who wants the same dinner everyday!
