Just wanted to know if you are feeding at the moment and if so, what are you feeding? I never usually feed through the summer as there is usually a lot of grass and my horse usually gets fat. Obviously there isnt much grass out there at the moment, and my horse isnt overweight at all, he's just right, should I be feeding? He obviously gets his hay when he comes in, but other than that just carrots and 'grass' when it comes through! He's out 24/7 by the way!

any advice would be great thank you!!!!

My horse is on a proper feed (scoop of topline nuts and chaff, supplements etc.) twice a day, but he's a tb and looses weight very easily. My pony is on a sort of "pretend feed" so he thinks that he's having one when my other one does.

I wouldn't be feeding most horses at the moment unless they work hard and lose weight very easily.

my tb gets fed once a day purley because its his routine and he digs through to china if he doesnt get fed, grace only gets fed when she is worked, she is quite fat and we have stacks of grass, it has shot up over the last week and is very green, its taken me this long to get some weight off her so she is on a strict diet/work regime, she wears a muzzle a few hours a day also. they only get fed hoof kind chaff and pony nuts. garlic and flax oil for joints. only a small amount as i have lots of grass so they dont need bucket loads! i would just feed when you him, maybe just a balancer or something but if he isnt wasting away then i wouldnt worry to much.

my horse is the same as yours doesnt really need any weight gain during summer, i do feed him bailys lo-cal balancer so he gets his vits and mins and have just started feeding a little hi-fi only to hold his powder calmer supplement, other than that he doest get anything.

with the lack of grass atm i think you should be giving your horse something like a balancer or a all in one supplement (the dengie ones are good)

Im feeding my horses loads at the momentthere 2yo Warmbloods, as there is no grass! I feed scoop of chaff, 3/4 crushed barley, 1/2 scoop of nuts - twice a day my horses are out 24/7 and don't seem to be gaining any weight and there ribs are showing. They also get hay morning and eve! There not wormy as I checked my worm count.

Im worried about it should I be?

do for tape worm. tape worm wont show on a egg count only a blood test will show it. its tape worm time anyway, perhaps try pink powder in your feeds to help with digestion to get the best out of the food.

I am feeding twice a day as my horse isnot a good doer, i don't feed cereals or mixes but i do have him on baileys outshine, speedibeet and mollichaff calmer and have just bought a bag of readigrass to try him with. He is looking good at the moment but still needs a bit more condition on ready for the winter hence me trying the readigrass. He also has hay at night, and haylage balancer and garlic! costing me a fortune give me back my cob who was a gooddoer and lived on fresh air!LOL

Thanks China, already feed pink powder and have wormed with Eqvalan Duo which includes Tapeworm. Think I have come to the conclusion they are young and still growing.
