i own a hot headed tb x welsh. im wondering what to feed him over the summer. he will be in heavy work 1 1/2 hours a day possible 2 hour hacks, and this would be 5 times a week. competing once a week SJ, XC and DR. He could live off grass in general but what withhis work load i dont want to feed him nothing as he still needs to retain the vitals he needs. I was thinkingf along the lines of calm and condition and ready grass?? any ideas. he does hot up easily and on certain foods like spillers cool mix he loses the plot. thanks

what woulld be the best hard feed? would you say calm and condition would be enough for him to keep up with his workload (although i do know fitness plays a key part in this)

Have you thought about something like Saracen Releve? It's a very low starch 'hard feed' and may suit your fella as it's generally the starch content in cereal based mixes that send some horses a little loopy.
