Thinking of putting my TB on a joint supplement and quite like the thought of making the most of Feedmarks BOGOF offer. I had a quick look on their website and was confused by the amount of joint ones they had. So, which one do you use and do you think it's any good?

Horse in question is a 22 year old TB. Still in light work. Has navicular and arthritis in his hocks but seems to manage OK - bit stiff sometimes but generally pretty good for his age!

I've used Activet with an elderly horse and it seemed to make a difference. Superflex-HA seemed to be more effective though, so I swapped to that.

I changed my old boy from cortaflex to feedmark, and noticed a huge difference - not for the good. I changed back, and noticed the difference immediately. It's expensive but I won't use another joint supplement now, it's cortaflex all the way for me.

I've used Extrafex for years, and do notice a difference if I run out.

I always wait for the offers to come up and then stock up, as I have 4 horses on it.

I do like feedmark. If you know what you are doing their single herb supplements are really high quality. But I have found their generic mix type things - you know hoof supplement, digestive supplement, joint supplement etc - are very basic. Absolutely understand that this is probably where the money is but personally I would not waste my money.

Joint supplements are so much in vogue right now and pretty much every supplier is trying their hand. There are very limited advertising controls on animal supplements which makes things harder. But if you can - identify which ingredient you want to supplement for your horse's situation right now and look for a decent quality supplement which supplies exactly that.

I've used the devils claw with success, think horse needs more now though so have ordered zerobute because it has some extra ingredients in it which I'm hoping will help, otherwise I'll try the separate devils claw and boswellia. I'm just trying to avoid having an extra tub hanging around. If you're not sure what to choose call the helpline, they're qualified nutritionists I think and if you tell them the symptoms they'll help you pick the best supplement.
