What would you all say to be the best conditioning straight. Basically what straight feed puts the most weight on and pro's and con's of that particular one.
Whether it be oats, barley, linseed or peas what do you all think?

Alfalfa + crushed barley + micronised linseed + brewers yeast + black sunflower seeds and don't forget a vit/min lick to balance it out.

I think oats are not balanced enough. Barley has more minerals in it and alfalfa has highest protein content. I prefer not to use oil but the whole product that makes the oil if poss.

Barley [micronised or rings] is good, but as with all straights you need vitamins and minerals, also I like to have three elements to my winter feed, so would have sugar beet pulp, barley and linseed meal [charnwood milling]
This has fibre, starch and oil.

extruded full fat soya - it's 20% oil and is very palatable (smells like digestive biscuits).

like others have said, you would need to feed a balancer with it. We rarely have to use it these days, but when we do we are adding it to alfa oil and speedibeet (and lo-cal balancer).

Really? :confused::eek:

I've been feeding soaked oats to my very good do-er who needs some oomph specifically cos I was informed that it wasn't particularly good for adding condition but will add a bit of sparkle.

I feed my good doer Welsh soaked oats and haven't had any weight gain problems.

I would always say barley for weight gain, but having above good doer it's not something I've ever fed :rolleyes:
