My mare came down with suspected lami last wednesday so vet came out,put frog supports on, gave her bute and i put her on a deep bed. She started coming off bute over the weekend and now shes just sore on one foot. The box rest doesnt bother me at all. I just hate seeing her in pain. I almost lost her last year to septic tendon sheath and she was on box rest for 17 weeks after an annular ligament op. Shes hacked off being in and im so fed up of it always being my horse that things go wrong for. Wouldnt mind if i just slung her out and didnt go and see her but i dont!! I bring her down,ride her and get vet and farrier out at slightest thing!! So fed up :(((((

Warrior princess, I really can sympathize. I lost my horse 6 years ago after 18ish years of a perfectly healthy never injured (literally never a days box rest in that time) and have had 6 years of absolute hellish problems with a variety of lovely but problematic horses. It is horrible feeling you cant help them but in fact you ARE helping her, the fact you have followed vets advice etc is the biggest thing you can do to help her.
As above try and sort out a smaller fenced paddock- you can give her soaked hay to keep her busy and occupied. There will be hundreds of people on here with posts to offer advice on managing and preventing another attack.
In the meantime chin up and well done for looking after your mare so well and seeking veterinary attention straight away.
 
My vet once said that the owners who are fairly negligent and fly by the seat of their pants when it comes to the welfare of their horses always seem to get lucky and never have problems and it's always the owners whose horses want for nothing and are treated likes prince/princesses that seem to have more than their fair share of pain and heartache! All very unfair.

I hope she is lami free very soon and you can relax for a while! :) x
 
She may be ok. One of mine had really acute laminitis last June. The vet was convinced he had foundered, but he hadn't - luckily. I kept the supports on for a month, just cleaning his feet and re-strapping them on. The fact the first vet had padded him up saved his life, I will be eternally grateful to her.
My life in the good weather is now a round of soaking hay, feeling feet/pulses and watching the weather forecast. But it's worth it! :) Healing vibes for you. X
 
Thankyou and its good to know your story has a good outcome. Ive just been to see her,shes so bright and keeps whinnying at her friends in the field,poor girl. But theres no way that even if this goes the right way is she ever going out 24/7 again on grass. Dont think my nerves can take much more x
 
We too have been like this with a muchloved horse who came right in the end. We think the reason that it seems to happen to the caring people because they are so caring and in tune with their animals so that they notice when things aren't right.
 
OP...laminitis is not the death sentence it used to be. Even rotation can be sorted with correct care and management...
Have a read of this site and/ or join their Facebook group. The ladies there are very knowledgable and helpful
