its a long one guys..

unsure if any of you know that i had the physio to fox a few weeks ago and got his saddle refitted and gave him some time off. lunged him and he was fine, got on him again and he was still a bit off so gave him another wee while off.

sharer 1 text me during the week last week saying fox was a nightmare and was bucking and broncing with her which he never does and kicking out in his stable, so i thought it was maybe time for the vet. i took him out at the weekend myself on the lunge to see how he was moving as i hadnt seen him act up personally and he had a massive yahoo. and i dont mean a few wee bucks i mean he went for it like nothing else! got on him and he was fine, a bit all over the place but i put it down to the fact hes not been worked properly for at least 2 months now. the horses havent been turned out in i dont know how long either so i think he was in desperate need of letting off some steam!

was speaking to one of the other liveries and she was telling me that newer sharer (lets call him sharer 2 lol) was telling her that he was actually quite scared of fox and she was saying when fox swished his tail or put his ears back sharer 2 just did something else and if he acted up while being ridden sharer 2 just got off. so now im thinking, perhaps nothing is wrong with dear old fox and hes just taken the pee completely since sharer 2 has been letting him away with absolute murder. im a bit miffed cos when i ask sharer 2 how hes getting on he will just say fine and theyve had a good day.

so i dont know what to do. have spoken to sharer 2 (hes on holiday just now but text to ask how fox is) and said to him we will need to have a chat when hes back and sort all this out. meanwhile me and sharer 1 are concentrating on getting fox back to how he was before all this nonsense started.

asked the livery who was telling me about sharer 2 being a bit feart what i should do, should i work through it or tell him its not really working out? she said i should work through it but in my heart of hearts i feel like sharer 2 may let fox continue down this path and undo all our hard work :( hes such a lovely guy and i dont want to make him feel bad or anything like that. id even told him he could get lessons on fox cos he admitted his riding wasnt what it used to be but he never got any.

i just feel confused cos i dont know whats caused fox to act up. is it the fact theyve been in for so long? is it that sharer 2 doesnt have the confidence that fox needs to be kept in line? i just dont know :( i dont even know the point of this thread haha my heads a mush and i just needed to get all this out!

i have bourbons and tea if you didnt get bored reading that!

I think you might be assuming too much at this stage. Perhaps you need to be around while the other sharer rides when he gets back so that you can watch and assess. Did you spend time with sharer two and Fox before hearted leaving them to it?

yeah i was up with sharer 2 for 2 weeks when he first started sharing and waited for him to tell me he was comfortable on his own, he seemed fine while i was up with him. sharer 1 rode him at weekend after i lunged him and got on totally fine, i walked beside her on a walk aswell after, fox was a bit bratty and tried to nap (he hadnt done this for months) but she rode through it and it was fine.

ETA just realised i misread! have told sharer 2 that i will watch him ride when he gets back and we can go from there

If he hasn't been in work, and hasn't been turned out for two months, I think you can safely say that that's where the problem lies! Mine turns himself inside out if he has two days stuck in the stable...God knows what he'd do after two months.

hes been worked just not properly, the weathers been abysmal here so hes mostly just been walked and taken short hacks. he's been turned out in a hardcore but theres not much room for a yahoo and 0 grass in it. not making excuses right enough i know its a shame on my boy and i dont blame him going crazy at all, hes definitely been better since the weekend though!

I'd say turn out might be the problem too -have you scaled back his feed to account for him being in? Deans is calmer now after six weeks box rest than he was when he was on the micronized linseed and turned out every day, he was just so packed full of energy he could hardly contain himself. Did anything change at the weekend which might account for it?

yeah ive halved the amount of everything he gets, which is annoying cos he not got enough condition on him the now as it is the poor git. well it was J with willow that said to me she thinks fox is taking the mick so she came round with me to the school and watched me lunge and thats when he went berky then was fine when i rode after lunging him. i lunged him on sunday with L and he didnt bother his butt. she said he wouldnt keep his head still right enough which i didnt notice the day before

I guessed it was J from first post :D are the others lunging him before riding? Def seems like the probs have started since new sharer (not saying its his fault mind you) so could be a combo of lack of turnout and getting away with more nonsense than usual?

they werent before but i said to L as of this week lunge before riding until he settles, if he doesnt then its a vet visit cos its not like him to be bratty in the school for no reason. (i say the school cos you know what he can be like on hacks ) yeah i think so, but the nonsense has defo started along with new sharer, not his fault, just fox has him all worked out i reckon
