Had a bad experience with a farrier last year which left my horse's feet in very bad shape (she's barefoot). She is already pretty poor conformationally with them (flat footed, huge) but this was exacerbated by said farrier. I've since changed to one who is highly recommended in my area and very good with barefoot horses.
However, I feel as though I've lost control with them a bit. They're still pretty awful in terms of their shape, its not so much aethetics but the fact that they almost look 'twisted' now, as one side is far more flared than the other. If that makes sense. I don't really feel like I can tell him he's doing it wrong (if he is) as such, I'm not the one who trained for 4 years and am no expert. It makes it even more difficult that I'm away at uni for a lot of the time, even though there's always someone there when he comes to do them.
Obviously I need to have a chat with him when I next see him in a couple of days but has anyone else ever felt like this or had something similar?
I almost feel like learning how to do it myself!

Ignoring what they look like, how are they functioning?

Is she sound?
How is she landing - toe first / heel first / flat?

Nothing stopping you learning how to do them yourself
However, best way forward I would say is to be there, and ask him questions, PLUS take photos, so that you can reliably track what is going on.

As leg_end said how do they function? Is she sound ?
Sometimes what they really need is tone allowed to grow weird looking feet to compensate for the rest of the body.
