Had Toto's teeth done tonight by Shane Kitching, its the first time Ive had him do his teeth and he was recommended from this forum, anyway he said his teeth were REALLY awfull and sharp ect and he spent ages working on him , the lady I had last time had obviously done a total bodge job and when I said who I had used he was not impressed! , anyway alls well now but I feel terrible to think he was in pain and uncomfortable and that lady is out there doing a c**p job

Shouldn't worry about it. Horses have a high pain threshold and it would likely have been mild discomfort rather than pain.

i had the same, years ago... had had my 2 done literally the week before by my (very good) equine vet, and took them to a yard to have their backs done. there was an equine dentist there, we got talking, i asked him to have a look "but i'm sure they're fine, they've just been done... i'm positive they're fine..." etc. he put the gag on, looked, laughed hollowly, got me to stick my hand in... and i cut myself on the edges that had been left. i was absolutely livid. this was my Advanced horse, but that's not the point... the point is that i had paid for an "expert" to do it, and then put pressure on the horses because i thought their teeth were fine.
that's why i tell people now that if their dentist doesn't take 40 mins per horse, he's not doing it right.

there's a lot of charalatans out there, and i think i know who you had before... if her father used to be in the same game.

How were you to know? Dont feel guilty, we trust what the 'experts' say, in that you believed your last dentist was doing a good job, and how were you to know she wasn't, you are not a dentist or you'd have done them yourself. Stop knocking yourself, at least you've got someone to do them properly this time, so you therefore deserve a pat on the back!

Shane Kitchen is one of my all time equestrian heros! He used to do my last horse who had the most dreadful mouth problems and literally saved her life! Sadly he does not come this far north any more. You are very lucky having him as your dentist.

I had exactly the same problem a month or so ago - I was suspicious that my horses teeth weren't right, even though they had been done a few weeks before. I had Shane out too and he was brill - I recommend no-one but a qualified EDT now to everyone, but it's surprising how no-one really takes any notice! At least you have got them done now - you weren't to know
