This morning I was running late and walked my boys out to their fields - next door to each other dropped lead rope on floor attached to 5 year old and took 12 year old into field, let him off and he spun round trampled over me and ran off out of field and just kept going, panicked about 5 year old and he just stood there looking at me adn waited for me to take him into his field (what a little saint!!) Next 20 mins me running round the fields trying to catch 12 year old b*gger! Luckily instead of the road he decided to go into a spare field where again I tried to catch him but he was having none of it. Made sure he had water and locked him in field. Called very good friend and said that I had to leave him as I was so late and at least he was safe. I then asked if she wouldn't mind trying to catch him later and either put him in stable or field - he can be a complete pain and if he wants to go he does! Just got call from very good friend, she has managed to get him into his own field but didn't realise electric was on (it is dangerous and goes through the metal gate) cue her getting shocked, then shocking horse and him running off luckily in his field. Apparently all of her fingers are bleeding round her nails and she is still having palpitations (sp) she is on way to A&E under doctors orders. So please can you send your vibes as they always help so much. Although we have had a giggle about it I feel so guilty and don't know what I can do to make it up to her.

Cookies for getting this far - I think I need a bottle of wine too!!

you poor thing!!! hope all feeling chilled and better soon.

nb you can get those special kits to only have the electric on when gate closed, so it auto stops when you open the gate......

Could the metal gate thing be why your ned was afraid of going THROUGH it to go into his field? He might have got a nasty shock off it too at some stage and his finger nails might have been bleeding. So he now says dream on - ain't going through THAT thing! There's usually a reason for that sort of behaviour, albeit stupid from a human point of view but totally right from the horse's lol x

I hope your friend is ok,...but your electric fencing should never be strong enough to make someone's fingers bleed, nor give them palpitations.
That could kill a child or a dog

thanks box_of_Frogs yes, funnily enough I did think about the fact that he might have got a shock whilst I turned round. Shilasdair I totally agree with you the electric is dangerous and either it doesn't work or sometimes it works when not switched on. I have been having major problems with the yard owner (he is a very nasty agressive man) for a while now and have been trying to move yards but nothing has come up, luckily I have one stable reserved at a different yard and another is coming up hopefully in teh next 2 weeks so I am hoping to be out of there. I cannot say anything as he will kick me off but the time will come when I leave. But I will get my friend to complain. This YO is such a lovely man - he tops fields without asking and giving chance to ragwort before, the fencing is wire and they have all had many incidents and it is dangerous, he dumps farm machinery in exposed places e.g a harrow in the middle of the lunging area, round the school he has machinery with flapping tarpauline (sp) on - good to make them not so scared but rubbish in the wind when you need to school, there are loads of other things but the last is insisting we all feed his hay which is bright green and has ragwort in!!! Thus is why I spend a fortune on haylage at the moment!!!

To top all of this off, this horse that ran off and also did get a shock through my friend has been having major treatment on his back and limbs for the last 3 months so he shouldn't be galloping around!!!

But some good news my friend although still giving out small shocks to those closest to her is feeling much better now and I gave her a lie in this morning and did her horse for her.
