Well the horse I was thinking of buying turned out to be a no go :( He was very fidgity in the stable and it was taking me 30-45 minutes to get him to calm down long enough for me to give him a good stroke and apparently brushes are hugely scary horse eating monsters so had to add on another 30 or so minutes before he'd let me give him a good groom. Then yesterday whilst having a lesson he took a major bucking fit and dumped me (bum first... ouchy) onto the school floor - thank god for shreadded rubber flooring! So the yo asked her daughter in law aka fearless crash test dummy/ guineapig to hop on up and see how she got on. Two seconds later she was also looking a bit stunned after another unplanned dismount. Felt not so bad with myself coz I managed to stay on for one less buck than she did but never the less still a bit dissapointed as I was very taken with him. He was going to be a working livery horse for the riding school which does a lot of saddle club activities for kids and obviously you can't put kids on a horse that may or may not be having a bad day and decide to throw them off :( Oh well off to england the otherwise lovely Dexter will go, to a new owner who is much more experienced than I am and where little kiddies won't be flapping around on him. On a brighter note the yo has a new horse coming in tomorrow she wants me to look at and who she thinks may be more suitable for working livery so keep your fingers crossed for me! :)

He didn't seem to have anything wrong with him, there are no lumps and bumps on his back or tummy and they've all just recently had their teeth checked. I always check their feet before i get on and there didn't seem to be anything wrong with his legs. His saddle and bridle fit him fine and he's definately not off his food either ha ha! Don't know really but I think he was just trying it on a bit, he's only 4 and seems to be going through a see what I can get away with stage. But whispy willow is right it's better to be confident in my choice and not go for something that i'm a little unsure of. Would have been brilliant if it had all worked out fine, he's lovely. Made me feel a bit special coz he would follow you round the stable and field - although that was probably because he knew i have polos in my pockets most of the time. He even figured out that when i wasn't feeding him one the packet went back into my zip up pocket and sneakily unzipped it when i wasn't looking. You wouldn't think a 16h giant like that would have any ninja skills but he could be quite stealthy apparently ha ha! :D

well i think you made the right decision- he's a big lad- did you not say he was a maxi cob? and very young too.

there could be anything wrong with him, that wouldn't be obvious to the naked eye. i know a horse who is unpredictable... to be kind, and we later found out that he had broken his shoulder as a youngster. you'd never know to look at him- but the vet confirmed that he could still be experiencing pain at times when ridden. ;)

Yeah me too, I have to say the major fidgityness was making me a wee bitty nervous and I think that is a pretty clear indication in itself that he wasn't for me, think I need something a wee bit quieter for my first horse. Yup 16h gentle giant! Yeah there could maybe be something wrong but I expect the yo will give him a check before sending him down to lady in england that would like to buy him, and obviously he'll get a vet check down there too so if there is anything wrong he'll get seen to quickly :)
