That I haven't ridden at all this week!! My boy doesn't seem too bothered, he's busy fighting off flies and eating but still I feel bad I've got in from work and got him in for a groom but not actually gone out for a hack or ridden in the field since last Wednesday! I feel I'm in a bit of a rut with him! I need a bit of a talking to I think!!!!

I'm sure he's more than happy with his little break. If ur feeling guilty u better get back on though, think of something new to do with him that you can look forward to and start working towards it if you feel in a rut.

I get like this sometimes, I have two horses to ride, and I look after another six on livery.

I think sometimes I lose my 'mojo' for riding! looking after horses 24/7 and 365 days a year can sometimes mess with your head!

I take a few days off riding when I get like this, turn my two away, after that I seem to get back into it with more enthusiasm!

I know that feeling only too well!!!

I have five to look after, cater for 365 days of the year, and just sometimes I think " Oh no! not again!!!"

I, like the others, have a few days not doing very much!! Turn them out, let them get on with it, and then come back with new enthusiasm!

Everyone needs a break, and the horses don't seem to mind either!!

I wouldn't feel guilty - it's a bit hot and your horse probably likes a break every now and then, and it'll probably do the pair of you the world of good. My daughter was in a bit of a rut with her pony, they were not working well together, and didn't ride for 3 weeks. When they started working again 2 weeks ago (she tends to school or jump 2-3 x a week and hacks her about 2 x a week), our usual little cheeky misbehaving pony seemed to have a personality transplant, becoming so willing and compliant one wonders if she missed her rider and is now trying to please as if to say she'd rather be working as it's boring being a field ornament, even to the extent of cantering on the correct leg whenever asked, and even repeated this feat at a show on Sunday which amazed me.

I often read on here about people who ride early in the morning or late at night because they just have to ride their horse, it makes me feel guilty because sometimes I just don't have the energy (and I don't even work - other than look after 8 horses) but it just works for me and my horses that we just ride when we can and when we have the energy.

Thanks everyone,Hermangerman, that's what I was thinking, everyone's been riding out early or really late and I've been struggling when I get in from work it's all I can do to get him and his mum in for a groom, then I'm worn out! I've decided I'll wait until the weekend now, and book a lesson for next week so I've got something to work towards!
