Sorry guys, I need to vent a little bit.
I had a lesson booked for today (a group jumping lesson) but I got a text message at 8 this morning telling me my horse is too big to join in.
I was seriously not amused (ie P****d off) as I'd been looking forwards to it for ages and felt B was being unfairly labelled (given that this person has never seen him a- jump and b- in a group lesson). This is the third time I've been cancelled on at late notice.

So, I decided to box up and head down to the beach to let off a little steam. We took my veteran, Jerry, and my dad's horse and Jerry had his first canter in 6 months. :D
We went right the way along - as far as Troon - and even persuaded the boys to go for a swim. :o

some photos of my gorgeous Jerry and my friend who was lovely enough to ride him. I'm so happy to have Jerry back in work. :)

thanks for looking :)

What a weird reason to cancel! The only thing I can think of is if they had a class full of ponies and you have a very large stridding horse so that the instructor would constantly need to be adjusting the distances.

The beach looks like a lot more fun anyway!

he's a rather big baby - he's 6yo and 17.1 and he doesn't always watch what he's doing with his legs (he's caught me a few times walking out).
I'm just going to jump by myself tomorrow instead and spend my lesson money on a takeout for me and carrots for beau

Surely they knew the height of the horse before? And why does 17.1 count as too big?

Barking.

Sounds like a good day at the beach instead though :D

Nice looking horse :D

Well, to start with I was down as riding Jerry, who isn't allowed to jump and isn't even in full work
I despair

The beach was fun :) I did drop a fiver in the sea though :( :p

Sounds weird. Surely they would be using set distances anyway?

Mind you, looks like you got the best deal. That is a fantastic beach and it looks so nice and calm! The last time we were there it was too wild and I couldnt get Arnie in the sea (same beach in my siggy ;) )!

It was such a nice day :)
I love how clear Arran is in the second picture.

Also, I've found that backing them into the sea does the trick if they're unsure :D or maybe my two are just stupid :p

What a stunning spot! It looks like it was wonderful today - much better option, if you ask me!

I don't understand the thinking behind what your instructor said!! (besides being a bit unhelpful letting you know so late!) I had a group lesson today - including jumping, which included 2 little girls on tiny ponies, a couple of sort of 14hh2-ish with good teenagers on them, me on H who is a heavy 15hh3 cob and another girl on her leggy 16hh! We all got on fine - was great fun, in fact! You'd probably call it 'beginner' level, but the instructor had no trouble including us all in the lesson.

ps: I have been well scared about jumping until just recently - got a round of applause in the lesson last week :D

That's what I had to do with my boy to begin with! :D

Very odd reason about the lesson  but think I'd have enjoyed the beach more anyway! It's a lovely spot there, though I've never been with the ponies :)

Jerry is looking fab!

well done mrsHutt :D

I was wanting to jump a single bigger fence and I did request a group that would jump more than 80-90cms when I booked.

Beau got the day off today because I was in a bad mood so I've persuaded a friend to come and shout at me tomorrow morning in exchange for a hack on Jerry.

rhino: thanks, it's taken me months to get some weight on him and we've been given the ok to start canter work. he tried to jump one of the wee streams today :D

How very weird, no wonder you felt furious - I agree tho, day at the beach looks waaay better fun. I walk along there regularly and have hoof prints in the sand envy!
Jerry looks great x

Oh I'd much rather go to the beach!!Looks lovely :) Shame about the fiver tho!
Maybe you should book into a proper jumping clinic not some joey one that cancel last min because your horse is too big!!

What a stunning location. With scenery like that I would rather go to the beach anyway :)

Jerry look amazing for a veteran - there is nothing like a beach ride to blow a bad mood away.

:D
