feeling a bit sad

What a load of witches - they are obviously jealous! Take no notice whatsoever. I have just come back from the Golden Horseshoe endurance ride on Exmoor - there was one there a few years ago who successfully completed the 100 mile two day ride at the age of 22! A 14 yr old endurance horse is just coming into its own and isn't old at all. Do your own thing, and ignore the cows.

Next time someone makes any sort of comment like that to you tell them in no uncertain terms to 'F' off.

What a load of nasty, jelous bitches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Definitely sounds like the green eyed monster to me. 14 is absolutely NO age, and to many people horses don't even reach their true potential until between 12 - 16 depending on their breeding. And ID's are particularly slow to mature.

My friend has got a 26 year old pony who does dressage, fun rides, hacking, jumping the lot. Pulls like a train the whole time through excitement and goes positively loopy if you dare to go off to things without her.

Your girl is still a baby at 14 - tell them to stick that in their pipe and smoke it. And also tell them to ride their own horses instead of sticking their noses into your business!

Sure it must be jealousy. My daughters Irish bred horse is 14 this year and we certainly don't consider him old. And as he has to be jumped in a cheltenham gag don't think he is feeling his age either! He has a few hunting scars but so what. Enjoy your shows this summer and for many summers to come.

How rude. Smile sweetly and ask them if they saw Over To You going round Badminton.

Gah it really p*sses me off when people write horses off at such a young age... YES that is a YOUNG AGE IMO!!!

Don't listen to them hun... if your mare wasn't up to it she wouldn't do it - she probably had a wonderful time... it's my opinion that if a horse has had enough they will let you know... 14 is nothing!! Look at these horses that go round Badminton that are 16yrs+

As for lumps on her legs - if it is something that people are going to comment on... perhaps get her a set of boots... OK so she may not NEED them but it will cover up the talking points... which if as you say are old hunting scars and aren't effecting her then "what they can't see they can't comment on!!"

Perhaps a set of teh stretch and flex boots as they are soft and pliable and won't irritate the lumps by chaffing if you get a rigid boot.

Hugs hun and if they really are bothering you then peharps you should think abut changing yards.

Oh and for the record - a girl at my old yard was jumping her horse Discovery Heights + and he was 23yrs!!! and LOVED IT!!!

Your horse looks beautiful - its just insecurity that makes people bitchy, so just ignore them they are not worth your thoughts! xx xx

I would be inclined to politely tell her to put her nose back up her own backside and mind her own business! Sorry but people like that are increadible, they tell everyone one else what to do with their horses and do bugger all with their own. Like most of the others, move yards it sounds like you are surrounded by a yard of bullies. I don't think 14 is old at all, most horses don't mature until they are 8, your horse looks lovely, you keep doing what you want to do with him and ignore that woman she's probably only jelous.

I remember once someone telling me I shouldn't ride my horse in spurs.

I smiled sweetly at them and told them that when they could ride their horse half as well as I could ride mine, then they were free to comment. Until then (I said), keep your opinions to yourself!

Between us me and my two sisters have:

1 x 20 year old
1 x 25 year old
1 x 16 year old
1 x 11 year old

we have a 28 year old as well that retired last year...

If we are honest my sister's 25 year old looks almost the best of the lot - she is just as lively and well looking as she ever has been - in fact I think she has probably got more enthusiastic in the last few years!

14 seems young to me! Just ignore them, you know your horse best

Good god 14 is a mere teenager!!! Just ignore them or ask them to go and read up on their knowledge! Who cares if your horse has a few knocks and bumps, its a bit like us and our marks from having kids or accidents, its life experience.

Check my sexy OAP out!!! - most of you on here know his age.......and he is still out and competing, few dents here and there.

Please do tell the nosey bitches to get a life!!!!

I dont know many people with anything under 15 on our yard and there are over 10 of us!

What complete shits!! Don't pay any attention to these morons, you seem to get them wherever you go. It sounds like you have a lovely horse and 14 is nowhere near past it - we've got a pony of 30 at our yard who still likes to potter out and jog all the way home. Lumps and bumps are to be expected in any horse who has had a hard working life like hunting. And as you say, you're just both getting your confidence back after time off so neither of you are going to be on top form and no normal person would expect you to be. Oooh, people like that make me so MAD, I just want to slap them!!! Why can't they mind their own business - what you and your horse get up to is nothing to do with them! I hope you can ignore them, but if they get too bad try and see if you can find a nicer yard. Life's too short to spend it unhappy.
