My mare is off to be a 'nanny' companion for (on loan) for a year... ive had her about 3 years now and she is unrideable due to ringbone, high and low...

I just feel like im letting her down.. its stupid, i still own her- shes going to someone who comes highly reccommended from my vet (uses the same vet) and yet i still feel sick and guilty!

Shes going tomorrow morning @ 9am, i just felt that she needs some 'use' and shes getting bored sat in a field whereas there she has a job to do and will have new youngsters in with her every few months to tell off and correct.

Its stupid, shes only heading 20 mins away.. I just needed to let it out

it is because you're a good, loving responsible owner - don't feel bad you are bound to worry, she isn't far and if you aren't happy you can soon get her back. hugs.

Ooh sounds like a top job for a mare! Kind of equine supernanny! You're bound to feel down, but just imagine the fun she'll have, visit her often and save your pity for the youngsters

No you are actually being very silly indeed. She will probably really enjoy the Company and attention.

I cried for days when Gully went off to be a companion and he loves it in fact when I visit him he looks so happy and content and he and his best friend Henry love each other.

However if you want to let her down just stick her in a field very near you on her own, wear sackcloth and ashes and beat yourself with a rancid piece of baler twine!!

I let my old horse go on loan as a queit light hack to a family about an hour from me. He loves it and is very happy living like a pampered pet.

They are fantastic people who love him to bits and he has a home for life. I think you have done the best thing possible for your mare, and I bet she will be very happy being super nanny.
