I feel awful tonight after taking my mare out jumping today at a local show. She jumped really well there two weeks ago and we took her back today hoping for the same results. A light rain came in for about tens mins but it was enough to make the ground geasy and my mare ended up slipping when taking off into a wall and ended up refusing as she lost her footing. As she is on a 6yo this knocked her confidence and she then refused to jump the wall on the second and third attempt. I jumped a practice fence after leaving the arena but now I feel awful for not pulling out of the class as soon as it started to rain. I feel like I have done more damage than good - young horses are so impressionable and it doesn't take much to knock their confidence.
