Older lady, unable to do her horse, desperately tried to sell or loan and failed. She asked if he should be put down and would I help!!!

Nice happy horse, sound and up to work.

Crikey - what a horrid position...

Can you help her try to sell him? put the word around local yards, facebook, instructors, farrier etc
With spring on the way I'd hope for a sensible price you could sell a nice happy horse that's sound and in work without too many problems

Has she had many viewings? what was the feedback from those?

What a horrible situation you're both in. Can you not ask her if she'll maybe give it 2 -4 weeks of more advertising before she makes any rash decisions?

We ended up getting our TB through asimilar situation so I am sure there will be someone out there will need him. Ours was 19, we'd previously had him for recuperation after sine loans had failed and he was left very underweight. A couple of years after his owner was put in the same situation as yours, he was returned from loan, she had nowhere to keep him, couldn't afford him so decided to have him PTS. This is where we stepped in. We had just lost an old pony and donkey leaving their older field mate without any similar aged horses. Therefore we needed a companion and took on "Dez".
10 years later we still have him and he's still going strong!

I think there will be someone, it's just getting the feelers out there to find that person.

There are good outcomes and bad outcomes, wouldnt it be sad if he did find a home only to suffer later when he could have been put down. I take it if she is old he is old too. Please give her as much support as you can cos this must be very hard for her, bless her and him.

I think you have to be realistic, if its a nice horse and a fairly novice ride with few problems it will find a home. No one really wants to risk taking on a TB in winter but spring is really only weeks away when it will be easier as people start looking again and the PC mums are always looking for something for bigger teenagers that does not cost a fortune.
Even if it is a difficult one I would give it till the end of April, advertise on local facebook so people are not coming from a distance to look and they maybe someone who knows the horse that will give it a referance.
She's done all the hardwork over the winter, I have ten and would have really struggled with out someone to help, it could be that she just needs help a couple of days a week to get her over the hump in to spring. Also make sure she is only doing what she needs to do not what she thinks she should do, most will live in one rug with food and water with shelter outside.

Does sound a dreadful position to be in - my questions would be;

Where are you? - maybe someone here can help? Some of us use mobiles and all we get is user name not location :-)
How old is horse? How big?
Novice/experienced ride?
And most importantly - how has the horse been advertised? Have you seen the adverts? - The horse may be perfect in all ways but if not advertised well then buyers/loaners may bypass the ad, also is the horse overpriced?

Where age height suitable for? Friend's little girl just had loan pony pulled. She's done all the hard work, taken the falls, sorted the bucking and bolting, mum's paid for lessons to fix it and spent fortune sorting weight feet etc so now obviously the loan for life is ending so owners kids can compete the now lovely pony. Point is this family give great level of care but have had no warning to save up much and a distraught early teen whose losing her pony. I would chip in and they would offer what they could for a half way suitable horse (kid quite tall) for the protection of not losing a loan again and never want to part with another. Homes are out there. Give more details.

Not sure if this is any help, but if the horse is functional and quirk free, maybe worth a try? http://horses4homes.net/
Could also try local colleges? RDA? Good quality riding school? Send details to local PC?
If not, would have to a agree with putasocinit, sad though it is:(
