I was feeling brave tonight and I took my young horse into the field. A month ago the though of sitting on her made me ill. She walked round fine, then another livery decided to canter past us

but no major drama. She had been so good decided to go for a wee trot which was apparently very exciting!! Back to walk and headed for home she was very full of her self, couple of hands bigger and feet not touching the ground but she didnt do anything nasty. I worry that when she feels like this she is going to go nuts but she never has, touch wood, does anyboby own/know of a horse that feels/looks like it is going to lose the plot but it dosent? Sorry prob a dense question but owning a "hot" type horse is new to me.

She is only young, once you get her focused on working her attitude will change

,you have done very well, and the fact she didnt explode when another cantered past her says she isnt that hot

if i was you when she grows a couple of hands and bounces on air,let her trot, but make her work,if she was going to go nuts she would have done it when another cantered past

My lad has his days,he feels like a timebomb(not often mind, lol),but he has never bucked with me on him in his whole life

I realise you are nervous, but with young horses you need to forward think as they learn pretty quickly,if she jogging and bouncing you need to make trot and work

my youngster feels like a bomb when i first get on him...he has tenseness issues but have recently bought an equissage which has made him a lot more relaxed

don't really have any suggestions...but just wanted to say you are not alone, its horrible not knowing what they are going to do!

The Dizz will go very light in the hand and feel like we're on air at times - vet or no vet, that is when I make her work because I think that if she is having to concentrate on work, even if the work is hard-ish on her, it's no harder than her having one of her hissy fits.

Getting down onto the bit and collecting works well for us, especially in trot.

Dizz's stress points come at the standstill - or at me requesting the stand still and her telling me what I can do with it

Your ned was good when a horse cantered past and on the way home, i.e. not pulling like a tram or trying to turn a shoulder (I'm assuming by your post), so I think you've got a goody there that you must have ridden well to have her in the right frame of mind to make it back in one piece

Thanks folks, I am pretty sure she is a good girl I just need to start to trust her a bit more. My previous horese although good fun was never ever hot or fizzy even if she was pulling she was still "heavy" if you know what I mean. The new one when she goes like this is light as a feather espically in front, you have nothing in your hand and its like sitting on air. It just feels so different to any other horse I have ever sat on. When she does this I put her on the bit, wrap legs round and sit quietly. She does look and feel like she is going to explode but she never has with me on her back. At least I cant complain about her lack of impulsion!!
